To Live Again, To Love Again Chapter 16

Bette:  “Well not much, I told her about the attack, and how well we are doing.”

Tina:  “Good, she sounds so nice, I’m glad you have a friend like that.”

Bette:  “And she’s coming to visit.  She’s coming to LA in two weeks.”

Tina stopped and looked at Bette.

Tina:  “That’s great.  I can’t wait to meet her and tell her thanks for being there for you.”

Bette:  “I’m sure you’ll love her.”

Tina:  “I’m sure I will.  Now how about you go relax.  Watch some Oprah or something.”

Bette:  “Only if you join me.”

Tina:  “I’ll be done here in a few minutes.  I need to check your bandage’s anyway.”

Bette sat at the barstool and Tina looked at her arm.

Tina:  “This one looks fine let me see the one on your leg.”

Bette rolled her pant leg up, it wouldn’t go high enough, so she stood and pulled the pajama pants down.  The bandage was soaked thru again.  Tina helped her to pull her pants off and they walked to the bathroom.  Tina took off the blood soaked gauze.

Tina:  “Let me clean it first before we put on another one.”

Tina took the disinfectant soap and gently washed the wound.  She loved the color of Bette’s skin.  The mocha shimmer of it.   She washed slowly and thoroughly.  After washing she dried it well and put on a clean bandage.  She help Bette put on some more pants and they made their way out to the living room.

Bette got comfortable on the sofa.  Tina brought her the stack of magazines and books Alice had dropped off while she was napping.

Tina:  “Here you go; Alice brought these over to keep you entertained.  And here’s the remote, watch Oprah or Ellen, just relax.  I’ll be back in a minute.”

Tina left and Bette found something on TV.  She was leafing thru a magazine when Tina came back in.

Bette:  “So what time is dinner, what time did you tell Sawyer?”

Tina:  “Seven, are you hungry now?”

    Bette:  “A little.”

Tina:  “Good, I made you this.”  She had a plate of fruit and cheese with some bread.

Bette and her would spend Sundays in bed eating this kind of meal.  It was something Bette always loved.  Simple and Tina didn’t have to spend time in the kitchen.

    1. This was a “feel good” chapter. After the crabby weather of rain for the last few days, this was like a ray of sunshine. I wonder if claire will still try to pursue Bette..i smell trouble.. and I love it.

Techgal- I like oprah but maybe she is starting to jump on the bandwagon on alot of issues lately, not that there is anything wrong with it. But sometimes you have to take a backseat to some things, not to say that she should not be a part of, but just to chill. i mean first it was the armeze thing, which I am with the retail people, the store was fucking close, cmon already. Then the katrina efforts and now the molestation issues. It’s like she is in everything. Reminds me of Al sharpton and that’s another issue for another day..lol

    2. “I ain’t gonna be no slave!”

Oprah and Gayle visit the 17th Century House and realize, to her fervent dismay, the role a black woman, if she were to be historically correct, would play.

Yes, Smiley, Oprah is ubiquitous. She’s everywhere and in everything.

I do like her hair do’s better than Rev. Al’s though. It’s almost a sacriledge to mention them in the same paragraph.

      Don’t y’all Harlem-ites hate on me, either!

    3. I love how calm and rational they are with each other! They’re talking about some pretty hurtful stuff and they’re both taking it extremely well. It seems that Bette and Tina have changed for the better. Thanks, goldie!

    4. hey tech, i get what you are saying about Oprah and i totally agree. She’s everywhere. Just putting her in this chapter cause i don’t watch daytime tv and that’s all thats all that came to my mind. also…….I LOVE Kathy Griffin’s life on the D list. Its hilarious. thanks for commenting and reading.

    5. Very sweet and definitely healing for B&T. And to use Tina’s words, they can now “heal together” with these conversations they have. I can’t wait to read Bette’s note.

Hmmm, “Tina stopped and looked at Bette” after Bette tells her that Claire will be visiting. Was that little moment a bit of jealousy? Or is she just glad that Bette is being open and honest?

Thanks for this “oh so sweet” chapter, goldfish.

    6. This chapter was brilliant, goldfish! It tugs at our hearts with both happiness and sadness. I hope Claire’s visit doesn’t tear our two love birds apart…be kind to us BnT fans with the drama I sense you’re about to unleash on us =)

    7. Excellent chapter GF, and so sweet. I am glad that Claire is comming to visit because I think that she and Sawyer would make a good couple. I wonder how Tina will react to her staying with Bette. It is great to see B&T reconnecting. Please continue, thanks for sharing your story.

    8. Does anybody else on here thing that Oprah is getting a little full of herself? Her guests can’t get a word in edgewise: “Here’s what I’ve learned…”

She’s got a good heart and she’s good with her money, but she’s a bit over the top with the self-actualization. Plus, she has too many commercials. I hope B&T have TIVO. They can tape O and edit out the ads.

    9. love this fishie… and i also wonder if clair is really ready to let bette just be with tina… just floating and swimming around waiting for your next post…thanks

    10. humm..you know i think after that chapter i really think B&T are very sure about what they want and what they want is each other..i dont think Claire visit will be a problem cuz B&T are strong enough to let jelousy be in the way..and if something bother them they only have to talk..they need to rebuild the trust and it seems it works…another amazing chappy Gold as always your ROCK!!!..thanks :o)

    11. Gold…great chapter. I wonder how Tina’s going to react to Claire staying with Bette? I think Sawyer & Claire would make an interesting couple. I really like that Bette & Tina are talking and are appreciative of what they have. Thanks Gold for this wonderful chapter.

    12. What a joy each time a new chapter of yours appears on the list…
The Goldfish’s magical touch, again !

How sweet is our dear two’s slow and deep reconnection…
Their talk about Bette’s leaving was beautifully wrote here, particularly Tina’s contrasted emotions about Bette’s absence around her, everywhere… Their mutual need of therapy, far of each other, but their mutual need of each other too…
And what Bette said about the timeless old part in her, the best one, the essential one, that was very beautiful too. As well as Tina’s moved reaction. A really touching part, talented author…
“Tina: “It’s your life too, and now it’s our life again.” ” God, I love that !

By the way, I also love the way you depict Tina’s emotions during these daily bandages’ checking, it’s like if Bette’s wounds were a symbolic image of their past relationship’s gentle healing : shared memories and talks, all the little and so essential everyday’s gestures, a kind of life together again, so naturally…

No doubt Claire’s emergence during this process will have a strong effect – positive, I hope, considering all the personality’s common points between the two women who love Bette Porter. I’m just concerned about Claire’s feelings : how hard it will be, for her, to be the friend next to our two eternal lovers… What a cruel situation for her, even if I’m convinced Tina and her have everything to become friends.

Well, all these next chapters in prospect, what a wonderful waiting !
