Tina, Tiny Pieces Chapter 22 – Part 3

    At Bette’s

Simultaneously summoning courage and surrendering to exhaustion, Bette tiptoes into the living room, her eyes immediately drawn to an enormous bouquet of white and coral roses.  She shakes her head.  Her eyes are puffy and reddened.  Her hands too are red, the knuckles nearly raw from scrubbing.

She walks closer to the table, leaning in and inhaling the scent, her nose nearly pressed into the silky, chilled petals.  She sighs heavily.

Oh Helena, why now?  Why me?  Why now?

Bette scans the card, murmuring as she smiles, unsurely, “Congratulations!  Love and luck the second time around – from one mother to another!”

She wanders to the couch, she sits down hard.  She leans back, sighing, tossing the rag in her lap.  She stands, she walks quickly into the kitchen, dropping the rag into the sink.

Ok, you’ll be happy to know we’re in the home stretch.  Last big question of the evening … what if she does show?  What then?  I am not – hear me on this one, ok –  in case you think I’m bitching or ungrateful or any of the fucking things I might have been that got me into this goddamn never-ending mess, I am not complaining about Angelica and I am well aware that I don’t necessarily deserve this chance after that little stunt I pulled in Canada.

Bette looks up at the ceiling, grimacing.

And understand that “little stunt” was a euphemism, ok?  I know it wasn’t a small thing and I know damn good and well it could have cost me everything.

She sits down at the kitchen table, jiggling her leg nervously.  She glances at the phone, shaking her head.

Oh Christ, I have to call Meg.  One fucking night of the week Meg is free and it’s the night I have to break the date.

    Bette raises her hands.

Hey – don’t get me wrong.  I’d break a date with anyone anytime for Angel.  My point is – oh fuck it, you get my point.  I mean, it’s not breaking the date.  It’s whatever sort of explanation I give for breaking it.  Which will be the truth.  Which will probably mean it’s the last I’ll see of Meg.

She glances back at the flowers.

    1. lol…you’re not playing fair Rau…I read them first. Why does Bette feel she has to stop seeing the Dr.? Surely she can balance dating & Angelica. Tina can’t rely on Bette to give her answers she needs to find them in herself. She needs to talk in her sleep so Henry can hear her. Would love to be a fly on the wall in that room…lol

    2. Excelent! Brilliant!, Great! That`s all I can come up right now. It`s amazing the way I can actually get a visual of waht`s going on on this history. And I`m frist at reading xD.

    3. well yeah!!!skycaptain you beat me twice, can’t have that a third time now can I; that’s like Bette being beaten by Tina over and over…never mind, great stuff, love the style of this writer and soooooooo hanging out for update!!!

    4. I hope that Bette doesn’t get with Helena in this one. There are so many stories with Belena (that are superb by the way) maybe it’s time for some new blood in the mix…maybe Bette will have a little one…a playmate for Angelica.

    5. have to agree with you skycaptain, no Belena please…and I like Helena just not with Bette,…..I want Tina and Bette to deal with their stuff….they can do it!!!! It’s not irreparable and I mean really what’s the diff between Bette’s reasons for Candybabe and T’s reasons for Henry??? not alot in the bigger scheme of things…these were/are only symptoms for each of them needing to sort their own shyt…T needs therapy, yup; so does Bette…so just get on with it and reconciliation sounds great to me but I’m not the writer so thems only my thoughts but have been there and done that and if you ‘love’ then you really ‘love’ and can get past your egoes and all that sadsack crap!!! bring on the joy, I say….they have a beautiful daughter…grow up and past themselves….jmho

    6. lastkid, I love this story-your writing is fantastic…but almost more than the story, I love reading your author’s notes. I almost never read other authors notes, because I’m always afraid they’re going to reveal what happens in that chapter, but you’re are always amusing, and I’ve laughed out loud at them several times. Post again soon-your story is too good to leave us hanging!

    7. Well Tina will certainly shatter upon waking up, I guess the question is who will pick up the Tina, Tiny pieces! This was a great chapter. I feel for Bette. I well Tina needs professional help.

    8. You know what’s scary? Nearly all of Tina’s dream sequence made sense to me. The Uncle Jim and Tina’s mother bit stumped me though. It almost sounded like Tina’s mom was married to Tina’s uncle. O.o The popsicle thing made zero sense to me, but the prom bit was comical. Bette’s outer monologue was really intense. If she really likes Meg, I don’t think she should stop seeing her (unless she and Tina somehow end up together but I’m not holding my breath). Arden seems like a sweetie. If things don’t work out with Alice perhaps they can become best friends.

    9. WOW!!! that was deep. This is a great story, & I so enjoy your writing style. Please don’t leave us hanging for very long. Thanks for takin the time.

    10. Quite enjoyed the ‘cluster fuck’, a wonderful turn of phrase. Who knew Bette was the kind to compulsively clean under stress? Sounds like Tina’s about to wake up. Next to Henry. ‘Nuff said. You know, that Arden grows on you.

    11. Oh my..Tina has officially lost it. She’s panicking and is in desparate need of a friend to talk to.What a coincidence, Bette is also in desparate need of a friend.Damn it,ahaa.. they need eachother. But a professional help ia abosolutely necessary for Tina. Too much emotions within one person, she’s falling apart.I really want the imaginative bette to stay, but Tina needs to wake up and smell the roses. Deal with this crap on her own. So does Bette.please don’t tell me i’ve gotten this much involved to have this fic be a Belena.nothing wrong with it, but i’m focusing on B&T and the issue at hand. This is your fic, and i’m on the ride.

    12. all caught up kid. bring it on. you are just killing people right and left with your writing. i read for enjoyment now. i have the love of my life with me now. i may get testy cuz im still a tibetter at heart. but with all that my woman has enlightened me with her intelligence and love, i can see that there are things that are just to much to overcome and maybe they shouldnt. i dont know. what i do know is that IC had an opportunity with t/b and totally fucked it up. but this is interesting also. thanks for the great writing and im glad to be caught up. keep it up when you can.

    13. No Belena…that’s heresy (to a TiBetter). Cluster fuck is just one of those great, descriptive phrases. Your storytelling is amazing. I don’t know if you’re a psychologist but you’re just so perceptive. I, too, love your author’s notes…clever and funny. Your dialogue is authentic and rings so true. Listening to Portishead’s “Glory Box” and Bird York’s “In The Deep” (from the movie, “Crash”). Both fit perfectly especially “In The Deep”. Post when you have the energy to do so.

    14. i won’t be able to sleep either..damn, the last part was intense…seems to me like arden was right but now B&T have to figure it out for themselves…am i right? they love each other so much they afraid of that love? damn, damn, damn…no sleep again and i have to blame you and your amazing heart-breaking writing

    15. You are just amazing. Powerful, intense writing. I so want you to be the writer who finally gets these girls through all this shit and together again – I can dream can’t I?

    16. Tina has officially flown over the cuckoo’s nest. She really needs help, but doesn’t want to admit or own her own faults. When things get heated, she runs and starts flopping like a fish out of water. She really needs to get it together before she ends up in a padded room. If she really wants to leave Henry- pack up and leave. She is a coward and a jellyback.Alice and Arden are cute… and Alice needs to stop downing herself. It can be hard when you feel alone, but hopefully Arden will bring her best.My poor baby, Bette. If anyone needs a break, she does. I want her to get her life back and some sanity. I am one of the few who never want to see her and Helena as a couple. I’ll always be a diehard Bette/ Tina fan but both need time on Dr. Phils chair and Oprah’s couch.

    17. It is boggling my mind to think that tina should ever EVER get Bette back or that Bette would ever want to, even for a minute, after all the harm tina has done. I find it odd as well that Bette is still held as responsible and thought of as crazy as tina is, according to comments, when all she has done is try to do what tina wants, and see her child, and to hold on in the face of agonizing pain. Alice even still says THEY fucked up…of course we know that she has always has had an axe to grind with Bette. I like Bette and Helena together, and as said, several other stories write that very well, or Bette and Meg would be fine IF Meg is good to Bette. Just as long as tina stays far far FAR away from her. Now, as said many times lasty, HOW LONG YOU GONNA PROLONG THE AGONY HERE!!! doncha remember I’m queen of Canada now and I have ruled…no more pain for Bette!!! There’s a good lasty, and by the way, I’m still waiting for my cake!!! Hope you’re having a great summer.

    18. now if Tina can just hang on to that dream and try it out in real life – (though maybe not the naked part at first)I love having three chapters to read at once – Thanks LastKid

    19. kid…are are fucking brilliant. Have I mentioned that. Your mind is definitely one of a kind. Thanks for the updates and I can’t wait for more.

    20. Wow, a trilogy for a Monday morning. What a gift. Your ability to have 3 scenes going at once with such dense dialog just amazes me. Tina is having a bad, but hopefully, illuminating mind trip. Also, I was happy to have a glimpse of what is going on in Bette’s mind and heart as well, poor thing. You keep bringing the goods and your sustained excellence is much, much appreciated.

    21. Please, please let this be the thought process that Tina enters season 4 with. Better still, let IC expose the TiBetters to some sort of reasoning behind (to me) a totally unexplained entire last season. As always, you rule!

    22. You keep topping yourself! Each chapter goes in a new direction, playing yet another variation on the Bette and Tina theme. Your versatility is amazing. Your inventiveness in plot and dialogue is amazing! This story just keeps getting better and better. Thank you.

    23. What did we do to receive this bounty from you today Kid? This isn’t a rhetorical question, I really want you to tell me so I can rally the other Tina, Tiny Pieces rabid fans together and can do it again. All three installments were so heart wrenching. You are able to make me ache for each of them without hating the person that helped cause their misery. Two minor requests, please don’t let Bette and Helena get together and from a still diehard TiBetter, let them get together. Absolutely love your writing! PS I was glad you used ‘cluster fuck’ in your story. It’s one of my favorites and I feel it is criminally under utilized :).

    24. Your writing is flawless. You are able, with a few words, bring life to the desperation in Tina’s voice and the sadness in Bette’s. You deftly set each story on top of the other like the stones that have been laid for the pyramids of Egypt, they build on each other adding structure and definition to the overall spectacle. Your dialogue rings true to each character and you skillfully unfold the depths of despair of both Bette and Tina with such realism that its palpable. Tina’s hauteur leaps from the page as does her puerile behavior. Bette’s irascible mien is understandable when seen through the prism of irritation that is borne out of frustration. Brilliant, just brilliant!……Bette sits and weighs the sacrifices that she is about to make and we see that she, more than anyone, is willing to do anything for Angelica. But the sacrifices are worth it. She knows that this is a significant change, understands that Meg may not be amenable to the fact that Tina will be in her life, but also knows that its ineluctable if she is to have Angelica. She brokers no arguement with herself that she is damaged goods, although others may see her differently. And I nearly laughed myself senseless with Bette’s conversation about how they both slept with Tina making her sound very close to the E Ticket ride at Disneyland. Funny those lesbian sexual dynamics……Very poignantly captured how a once treasured gesture like looking into someone’s eyes sadly morphs into to something resembling a nettlesome tick……Poor Alice, so afraid to believe that she is worthy of someone that might care for her. Her self-deprecation is just a shield to hide behind, if she hurts herself first, puts herself down, then her heart is safe if someone that she cares for lets her down. Because how could she blame them, right? She let them know ahead of time that she wasn’t worth it. However, I suspect that Arden may be on to Alice’s fractured heart and the need to protect it. I like their soft, playful banter too……Ha! Quoting Woody Allen, that was perfect for Tina. Just slightly left of center and flippant with just a hint of sarcasm. Wonderful way you bring it all back to what Tina is looking for to fill her up, the underlying message that there is still a need to be met, a hole to be filled in Tina’s soul, in her psyche and it’s still just out of reach. Tina doesn’t want to be left alone with her thoughts, with her life, with her emptiness. She’s still looking for someone else to make everything better, for Bette to make it better when really the solution lies within herself. You captured her panic at the very thought in a very compelling way…..All three chapters were materpieces and when combined show a very sad, lonely and broken Tina – and a very sad, lonely and broken Bette – and a sad, somewhat lonely and a bit battered Alice…..This was for me, about beginnings and endings, some old, some new and some just in need of a push to make the decision whether it truly is a beginning or an ending…..Bravo again and again and again!!!

    25. Kid, I will always marvel at your flawless way of taking emotions and putting them into words. You show us over and over how lost within themselves Bette, Tina and even Alice are. Arden commented that maybe they were afraid to love each other. I tried to buy into that theory, but its hard considering they weren’t together 8 days but 8 years. How are you afraid, or don’t know how in 8 years? Tina seems to have always been searching for more than what Bette could provide; the number one factor being security. No one can compensate or overcompensate for another’s insecurities. At some point, you have to step in there yourself. I’m glad that in Tina’s dream, there were no answers to her provided by Bette. I feel that each of them need to start from within to find the answers they seek…………………..I laughed my butt off at the “no Belena storyline.” Let’s face it; there are maybe 10-15 Belena stories and 1000’s of Bette and Tina. I am NOT a diehard TiBetter. And even if I were, with ALL the damage / pain there is between Bette and Tina, if by some act of God they got back together, they’d need another 8 years just to heal. I can’t see at this stage them being back together. They no longer have any trust for each other; so really, what good would they do each other. Bette is convinced that this was a marriage for herself and an 8 year hobby for Tina; not a positive note for starting again. Kid, you are brilliant!! Bravo!!!!!!!!!

    26. Wow! Read all three chapters together. What an interesting dream thread! How much farther will Tina go? I think I’d like to see Bette torment her some more! Thanks for writing!
