Tibette, the final story “Run Away To Me”
The scene:
The house is empty with the exceptions of a few boxes in the background. It is daylight.
Background:
The house is for sale and Tina had planned to take the proceeds and buy a weekend get-away cottage for the three of them on a lake in the mountains. This was going to be a surprise for Bette’s birthday.
She retraces the stops from the table where Bette and Tina sat drinking tea (Season five, Episode six) to her bedroom. Where they made love in the same episode. As she wanders, she spies one of Angie’s toy dolls in the corner of the living room. She picks it up and hugs it to her and through the tears, a smile appears. She then starts to walk purposefully with a lighter step and the beginnings of a happy look on her face. It appears she has made a decision…
Tina gets near the front door when it opens. Bette is silhouetted in the doorway. She has a neutral expression on her face. She gives Tina a slight wave.
Bette: Hey. I figured I’d find you here.
Tina has a surprised look on her face. The she also wears a neutral expression.Bette is leaning against the left door jamb…Tina looks down then up. She takes a deep breath.
Tina: Hey. If you would have come five minutes later I would have been gone.
Bette: Where would you go?
Tina: Your house.
Queue music. The first piano chords of “Love” by John Lennon.
Bette goes into a standing position. She is mildly irritated.
Bette: It’s your house too Tina, it’s always been your house. You belong there,
Tina looks sad and slightly doubtful.
Tina: Do I? (She looks away) I don’t know where I belong anymore.
Bette: (Calmer but still upset) Were you thinking about moving back in here?
Tina: (Looks Bette right in the eye) I’ve considered it. But then I think about Angie……and you.
Bette: (Emotionless/dead) what about the wedding?
Tina looks down fiddling with her keys.
Tina: I’ve been thinking about that too.
Neither speaks for a few seconds, they just look longingly at each other.
Bette: I went to see her this morning.
Tina stiffens up. She knows who Bette is talking about.
