Three options
“If you received the letter on Monday and spoke to Peggy that day why did you wait so long to tell me about it?”
“The main reason is that I wanted my lawyer to review the documents and make her assessment before we made any decisions. I just got that information on Thursday. I thought it best to wait until we had this time together to talk about it. You’ll understand that better once you’ve read the letter.” She handed it over. Tina carefully unfolded it and started reading.
My dearest Bette,
I know this comes way too late as the damage is already done but please accept my personal and heartfelt apology for the pain and suffering caused you by my daughter Helena Peabody.
Helena’s employ at the Peabody Corporation was immediately terminated upon the discovery that she’d misappropriated company funds for personal gain; however it was only recently that we uncovered the extent of her malicious and criminal intent which included the malevolent actions against you; both personally and professionally.
Her defamation of character caused your involuntary release from the CAC and her involvement with Leigh Ostin resulted in breach of contracts which threatened your livelihood as an Art Consultant and damaged your stellar reputation in the art community.
I know you’ve recovered beautifully and are now successful in your position as Dean of the School of Arts at CU but I cannot let this go without at least making an attempt to offer some restitution.
I realize that there is no monetary compensation that can put this to right and as family the formality of this offer seems incongruous but for legal reasons I am required to do it in this manner. I hope you will accept it in the spirit that it is intended. Enclosed you will find several legal documents that outline the Peabody Corporations’ settlement offer of three options to choose from:
I. $500,000 in cash to be paid immediately
II. Deed to California Beachfront Property valued at $2M
III. 51% ownership of Los Angeles location of Peabody Art Galleries with the option to buy the additional 49% for full ownership
Please feel free to consult with your attorney but we would appreciate a decision within the next 90 days. I have enclosed instructions and contact information for our legal team should your attorney have any questions or concerns.

I am very happy that they are able to talk about everything and actually listen to each other.
I think the property is the best option to start fresh and who wouldn’t love it to live by the beach! Angie would love it, she is young and flexible. And more important it is not at the end of the world they will be living, there would be enough family time and sleep overs.
I vote for the beach house!
Thanks again for the quick update!
Me too the beach house. I understand now why Bette didnt want the Peabody Gallery. Glad they are talking everything thru.
Well Bette has me sold on the beach house and understanding why she’s not going with the Gallery :)
