The Triangle of Love – Chapter 11
Dana: Your apartment, now?
Alice: That would be the one. So anyway, when you told me you loved me, I couldn’t believe that. It was too unreal. No one had ever told me they loved me. Not even my parents. You were the first person to tell me that and I couldn’t handle it. For once, someone I loved, truly, loved me back. It was like all my dreams had come true, but that’s all it felt like, a dream. It was too surreal, so I ran. But then, I thought about it while I’ve been in here. All those things in the past made me who I am today, and I realised that you said you love that person. You had no idea about my past and I had no intentions of telling anyone, but I had to, because if you can love me even after all that, it must be true.
Dana: I love you.
Alice: Are you sure? You probably said the same to Lara, but you broke up with her.
Dana: Honestly, I think I broke up with her for you. It sounds bad but while I was with her, I was wishing she was you, the whole time. I’m sure that I love you. I know I love you. I don’t care about your past. Yes, it’s bad but none of it is your fault. Your mother doesn’t deserve you and it sounds like she never did. If I ever meet her though, I will have to thank her.
Alice: Thank her, for what?
Dana: For giving birth to my one true love, and her actions making you the person you are today. I really love you Alice and if I could tell every single person in the world, I would. I know I’m not out yet. My parents wouldn’t take it well at all and I have no idea about my career, but if I had to give it all up for you, I would.
Alice: No, you wouldn’t.
Dana: Yeah I would. I’d do anything for you.
Alice: No, Dana, you wouldn’t. And I’m saying you wouldn’t because I would never ask you to do that. I wouldn’t want to be the reason you have a broken relationship with you family. I don’t want to be the reason your career falls to pieces.
Dana: Al, you are my family, don’t you realise that? And as for my career, yes it’s important to me, but you mean much more to me than tennis does. And if my career playing tennis goes to shit, who says I can’t become a coach or something?
Alice: Look, I know I can’t make your mind up for you, but I want you to know I would never, ever ask you to give anything up, unless you start smoking, I’ll try to stop that shit in a heartbeat.
Dana: Al, I’m not going to start smoking.
They both laughed, knowing Dana hated the smell of Shane, who smoked endless amounts of cigs per day. They spent the rest of their time alone together just staring into each other’s eyes, holding hands and discussing their friends. Dana told Alice that Bette and Tina would be in to see her tomorrow, and possibly Jenny and Kit as well. Shane had been gone longer than she thought, and when she arrived back at the hospital, she found Alice and Dana asleep. Alice holding onto Danas hand and Danas head laid on the edge of Dana’s bed. She was so happy for her two best friends. They had finally realised their feelings for one another. She just hoped neither of them would get hurt.

that was very nice and tender, Alice telling her story to Dana and Dana accepting her with love.
