    Dana: I will. Thanks for being here too Shane, I could get through this on my own. Shane: Hey, it’s no problem. Come on; let’s see if we can find anything out. They walked over to the receptionist and asked about Alice. they were told to wait one moment while the receptionist called Dr. Edwards.

    Dana: I will. Thanks for being here too Shane, I could get through this on my own.

    Shane: Hey, it’s no problem. Come on; let’s see if we can find anything out.

    They walked over to the receptionist and asked about Alice. they were told to wait one moment while the receptionist called Dr. Edwards. Minutes later, Dr. Edwards was coming down the corridor. Shane spotted him and dragged Dana over to him.

    Dr. Edwards: Hi girls, Alice is okay. I have good news and bad news.

    Dana: That’s all you Doctors say.

    Shane: Dana, just let the man do his job. What’s the news?

    Dr. Edwards: The good news is that Alice has injured her spinal cord.

    Dana: How is that good news?

    Dr. Edwards: The injury is lower in the back, which means the paralysis will hopefully only be temporary, meaning she should regain feeling in her legs and be able to walk again. The injury isn’t serious; it seems she just bumped it at some point between the accident and now.

    Shane: Okay, what’s the bad news?

    Dr. Edwards: The bad news is we have no idea how long the paralysis will last. While we are confident it won’t be forever, it can last between days and years. Since it’s just a bump, were hoping it’s only a few weeks. It could be shorter, it could be longer, we simply don’t know.

    Dana: Can we see her?

    Dr. Edwards: Yes, she is asleep but it might be nice for someone to be there when she wakes up. Let’s go.

    Once again, Shane and Dana entered the room Alice was in. They say her there, asleep, looking peaceful, or as peaceful as can be in such a horrible place. They took their seats again, Shane on the left and Dana on the right. Dana reached for Alice’s hand and held it, just looking at her best friend. Shane took Alice’s left hand. The two women just sat in silence, a comfortable silence, waiting for their friend to wake up. In her sleep, Alice could feel someone holding both her hands. She began to stir and squeezed her hands slightly, to make sure she wasn’t dreaming. Then, she could hear voices. She opened her eyes slightly and saw both Dana and Shane stood over her. She gave them a slight smile, that let them know she was okay, and they sat back down in their chairs, still holding on to Alice’s hands.
