The Sound Track of Our Lives

Charlotte shook her head in disbelief, “What are you talking about? Don’t make me out to be some sort of saint. We failed each other. My friend Bette, she is the one you thought I was dating, is going through a break up. It has made me think a lot about us. I haven’t let myself think about why we stopped working. You know I will always cherish the years we had together. You are happy with Tracey aren’t you?”

Georgia was unsure what to say so she just looked at her former lover, dumbfounded. Charlotte use to have that effect on her all the time. When had that stopped? That awe in the woman you loved, that she loved you back. Sometimes love isn’t enough.

Charlotte moved slowly into the office. She turned and shut the door. Walking to the desk, she waited for Georgia to stop her. Cautiously, she walked behind the desk. She stood next to the blonde woman she once was so sure she would spend the rest of her life with. “I have to talk to you,” she spoke softly hoping they could talk like normal human beings. They had yelled at each other enough already. “I was just given a job at a battered women and children clinic. I was hoping that now I can have partial custody of Stella.” She waited for Georgia‘s response to that.

Georgia nodded for her to continue.

“I was thinking a set schedule would be nice. We can talk about it and make the arrangements. We can split up the holidays or give her two of each. I am open to suggestions. I know you need to talk to Tracy about this. Maybe we could get together and talk about this, all of us.”

                “She misses you.”

“I miss both of yher.” Charlotte smiled down at Georgia.

“She makes me happy. I don’t love her like” Georgia blushes. Something that she has done since Charlotte was no longer part of her life. Charlotte was the only person that could make her unsure of herself. “It is different, Tracey and I. It isn’t nearly as passionate as we were.”

Charlotte laughs, making the seated woman jump, “You mean you two don’t yell and scream at each other. You don’t drive each other nuts. That is good, certainly more stable.”

    1. That was great. I loved the way you went from humor to heartbreak. Maybe Alice will get so scared by this prank that Tina and Charlotte are pulling on her that she will quit interfering in other peoples business. WHAT AM I CRAZY–THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN! Have a great day.
