The Sound Track of Our Lives

Charlotte‘s green eyes flashed with anger before they returned to their emotionless state. It happened so quickly that Bette was unsure that she had really seen the anger.

“I am busy right now,” Charlotte chose her words carefully, trying not to ignite this explosive situation. “I would prefer not to discus our personal matters in front of my friends or in a crowded bar. I will call you tomorrow.”

Georgia ignores Charlotte‘s words, forging on as if she had not spoken. “I am putting Stella in a different school so she will need different uniforms. It will cost more so you will need to cover the difference and the new uniforms.”

“I should have a say in the school she goes to. I honestly don’t know why you don’t let me take her instead of sending her to another pretentious daycare.”

                “You don’t have a job.”

“Which is why my days are free and I do work. I am a musician.”

“Ha! I meant a real job. You need to go back to work.”

“Well, Georgia, the thing is we aren’t together anymore so you really don’t have the right to tell me what I should or shouldn’t be doing.” Charlotte glared, her eyes yellowed with rage.

“If you want partial custody you will.”

“Call me tomorrow with the details about the new school,” Charlotte dismissed her former lover. It was easy to see Georgia wanted to get the last word in but Charlotte cut her off, “Tomorrow.” Charlotte said it with such force and venom that the blonde didn’t push any farther. Instead she got up and looked at Bette for the first time.

“She isn’t all she is advertised to be,” with that she strode across the room disappearing into the crowd.

Charlotte slumped in her chair, finished her martini before picking up one of Bette’s scotches and downing it. She let the scotch warm her stomach before she acknowledged the questioning looks from her friends. “I am truly sorry about that. She can be a littlewell aggressive.”

“She thought I was here with you?” Bette asks.

“Yes, no doubt that is why she felt the need to make a scene. It is fine for her to move on but I am not allowed to.”
