    Summary:
    It's the day before Christmas Eve and Tina is hosting her network's most exclusive Christmas party. But, as ever, there are more stories brewing under the Porter-Kennard roof .... (woof woof!) Enjoy!

    ‘What are you getting for Christmas?’ Herbie asked.

    ‘Well!’ Sasha turned towards him, pushing her hair out of her eyes. ‘I asked for a pod swing and a video-maker kit and hair chalks and Just Dance and Squishmallows and new crocs and a moon lamp and . . . um . . .’

    ‘I’m—’

    ‘Ssshh, wait a minute . . . um . . .’

    ‘I’m—’

    ‘God, Herbie, just gimme a minute!’

    Herbie sighed, but said nothing while Sasha screwed up her eyes and tried to recall the other things she’d asked for. But no, it wouldn’t come to her, so she eventually gave up and asked Herbie what he was getting.

    ‘A robot,’ the boy beamed.

    Now it was Sasha’s turn to blink. ‘That’s it? One robot?’

    ‘It’s called a Clicbot. My dad’s getting me it. I don’t know what my mom’s getting me.’

    Sasha stared at him. The fact that some kids’ parents were divorced was always a little bit weird, but now it was something else that pulled her up.

    ‘Do you mean Santa?’ she asked, in a very soft voice. Herbie’s eyes widened like a rabbit caught in headlights. Sasha hurried to speak again. ‘I mean, I don’t think he’s real or anything, but he . . . Like if he was then—’

    ‘He is! He’s real!’ Herbie blurted.

    ‘So you believe in him?’

    ‘Do you?’

    ‘Do you?’

    ‘No, but do you?’

    Sasha stared at Herbie, who gulped and then rubbed his nose. His ears had gone bright red and then he sucked his bottom lip so far inside his mouth that he looked like he was swallowing his own chin.

    ‘Okay, listen. My best friend MoMo, okay,’ Sasha said, drawing closer, ‘she told me like ages ago that Santa isn’t real but I asked my brother and he said he was, so then I asked my other friend Kendrick and he said he isn’t, and my aunt Shane is like friends with him or something but I think that’s just a story, so . . .’

    Herbie’s eyes were now the size of dinner plates.

    ‘I have to go,’ he said, and started to move, but Sasha grabbed him by the collar.

    ‘Look, you can tell me, okay?’ she said, drilling into Herbie’s eyes. He looked pained. ‘Is he real or not?’

        Y’know, it’s a real dilemma, writing this story, whether to skip ahead in time or not. In some ways, I’d really like to. I’me very drawn to the idea of writing B&T’s life with adult kids and grandkids etc. But then you end up skirting around the ‘d’ word and I don’t ever want to write that.
