    Summary:
    It's the day before Christmas Eve and Tina is hosting her network's most exclusive Christmas party. But, as ever, there are more stories brewing under the Porter-Kennard roof .... (woof woof!) Enjoy!

    It was the day before Christmas Eve and Tina Porter-Kennard was facing the last in a long line of initiations since she was made company president: hosting the Christmas party.

    To be clear, this wasn’t a party for everyone. The company’s official party was held in early December at a nice hotel in the city. Crews, writers, actors – everyone was invited to that. But the private party – this one, the one everyone wanted to go to – was invite-only.

    When Alan had been president, he’d hosted around a hundred people, but Tina wanted to cut that in half. Fifty people in an East 12th Street brownstone was plenty. And as she wanted her entire household to be there, as well as a few specially selected friends and celebrities, she’d ended up with a couple of dozen invites for staff.

    ‘It’s been a nightmare,’ she told Bette as they stood side by side in their en suite, casting a final eye over their hair and makeup. ‘I actually heard Runa telling someone they could not buy an invite.’

    Bette smiled at Tina in the mirror. ‘I would pay a pretty penny to meet Annette Bening. Y’know Angie’s hoping she’ll sign her poster?’

    ‘I’m sure she will.’

    ‘She loved that film. It was almost the only time she ever saw a family like hers.’

    Bette’s voice suddenly choked with emotion. Tina welled up too.

    ‘Don’t,’ she said. ‘My mascara . . .’

    ‘I know, I know!’ Bette laughed and got a grip. ‘Whew . . . And that Nyad movie? God, I’m so . . .’ She smoothed her slinky black Jill Sanders cocktail dress over her hips. ‘She trained eight hours a day for a year. A year!’

    ‘I know, honey.’

    ‘It’s so . . . that level of dedication, that focus is so . . .’

    Bette voice trailed off but Tina could see in her wife’s eyes that she was starstruck. Completely and utterly starstruck.

    ‘Well, she’s looking forward to meeting you too,’ she said, then turned and went back into the bedroom.

    There was a pause. Then: ‘She’s what?’ Bette appeared in the en suite doorway, holding on to the jambs.

    Tina was sitting on the bed, slipping on her favourite black leather Belenciaga pumps.

        Y’know, it’s a real dilemma, writing this story, whether to skip ahead in time or not. In some ways, I’d really like to. I’me very drawn to the idea of writing B&T’s life with adult kids and grandkids etc. But then you end up skirting around the ‘d’ word and I don’t ever want to write that.
