THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD – Chp 43
Bette slammed the door shut of Tina’s car and carried the last of the shopping into the house. She had needed to just get out of the house and spend some time on her own.
So she had been out – bought groceries and a few items of clothing. After ten days she had finally left Danny for the very first time alone with his other mom.
Bette had no fears about leaving Danny with Tina but she knew that T was anxious.
The previous Sunday Bette had gone out for the papers and some juice just to the local store – at most she had been gone 20 minutes. But in that time Tina had phoned her five times worrying about Bette and about how to deal with Daniel. When she had got home Bette had sat Tina down and ordered her to get a grip – she was a good and loving mother to Danny and he was as comfortable being cared for by Tina as by Bette. She knew by how he reacted to them that he just knew that they were his parents.
So today had been a real test for both Bette and Tina – Bette to do more than just walk around the house – and she was feeling her stitches – all twelve of them. For Tina it was time to face that she was not the secondary carer to Danny she was joint with Bette.
Bette had really enjoyed her time out of the house. She had strolled slowly around the mall buying little gifts for Danny and for Tina. At lunchtime she had gone to her favourite Italian café and ate pasta while reading the paper.
Bette had rung Tina only once in three hours – despite vowing not to ring her at all and that was to check on what Tina fancied for dinner.
They had chatted for ten minutes with Bette restraining herself from asking too many questions about Danny. Tina had waited until the end of the conversation before telling her that at that moment she was lying on the sofa with Danny on her tummy and they were enjoying some quality time.

tina’s last statement was really odd…i know bette should trust her but tina also should understand her fears…plus they are both hormonal…and they don’t need drama right now
So Bette’s 41 and Tina’s in her 30s. Too bad neither has found the time to grow up, to bad neither has learned to discuss emotional things in a rational manner. Love is NOT enough.

I agree with Jwet… That takes a hell of a writer to be able to write such conflicting emotions filled chapters on the same day! Don’t know what to think, except that they’re both under the effect of the surging of an overload of hormones right now. After all, post-natal stress might have played a major role in the undigging of Bette’s most deepest fears. Your call, Tina!!!… Thanks Ally.

Apparently I didn’t get my copy of the memo that says masturbation when you’re in a relationship is a bad thing. I’ll have one of my 8 bosses (or hell maybe all of them) give me a copy before the end of the day. I read Tina’s parting line several times trying to figure out in which way she meant it. I can only assume it was the way Bette didn’t want to think about.
