The Dying of the Light Part 4
**********
Pushing past Tina, Helena entered the room. “I think this is a conversation better suited to privacy Tina.”
Helena turns towards Tina as she is closing the door. “You’re looking good. Healthy. Safe. Comfortable.” The observation was sarcastic, bordering on snide.
Shocked, Tina blinked at Helena before opening her mouth.
“No, you don’t get to be defensive.” Helena breathed. “You don’t get to stand in a 5 star hotel looking content and act like a victim.”
“What?” Tina responded, anger beginning to colour her words. “I didn’t invite you here Helena, but if you insist on being here I deserve to be treated with some respect.” Tina finshed, her hands on her hips and defiance
“You deserve? To deserve something implies you have earnt it. You have not earnt much in the way of respect lately Tina.”
Helena was saved from the anger she could see brewing in Tina’s face by the cries of Angelica, the girl that brought her across the country.
Shaking her head, Tina stomped off into the bedroom, leaving Helena to make herself comfortable in the living room.
“Hi Baby.” Tina whispered, leaning over the cot to pick up the crying girl. “What’s wrong angel?” She asked, her fingers playing with the curls of hair at the base of Angelica’s skull. “Are you hungry?” Bouncing her up and down, Tina takes a seat on the bed, content to leave Helena in the living room for the time being.
“Your Aunt Helena is here,” She tells Angelica, unbuttoning her blouse and uncliping her maternity bra. “She’s mad at me for some reasons baby.” Angelica latches onto her nipple, feeding hungrily. “Maybe I should have told her where I went. I worried her I think.” She muses, running her fingers through her baby’s curls. “I worried me too Angel…”
**********
Kit hurried into the waiting room, zeroing in on Alice.
“What the hell happened?” She asked, grabbing Alice’s arm and dragging her to a quieter spot.
“Bette must have tripped and put her hand through the glass coffee table.”
“Is she going to be okay?” Kit almost begged Alice.
“I don’t know,” Alice takes Kit’s hand and walks her over to some seats. She pushes her onto a seat before perching on one next to it. “They wont tell me anything. I think they took her into surgery. There was so much blood”

Love this story…so painful for all involved. Hopefully, Tina can calm down and see things from Bette’s point of view. She needs to see Bette and let her know she won’t take Angie away again. Bette needs a reason to want to live. PPS!!
Hello Dee… with each passing chapter you create such a powerful story… I love how you begin each entry with such a vivid and powerful passages… each word evokes such a powerful response from my literary soul… I am thankful that you have finally shown us what Tina has been up to… yes I understand her fear and her pain for what ‘Bette’ had done… she panicked when she thought she was going to lose her family… but rather then be the adult… rather then see the fear and the utter loss of the woman you claim to ‘love’ Tina chose to seek refuge in her power… and in turn destroy the soul of her ‘soulmate’ if Bette recovers completely and sometimes these physical injuries have a way of manifesting within the primal emotional injuries that are already there… sometimes the body refuses to seek healing if the soul is beyond repair… I hope that with a gentle caress of her daughter and some soothing words… and maybe forgiveness from her ‘lover’ we might find Bette on the journey to recover her soul… and in return maybe just maybe her passion and zeal for life… you my friend are amazing… with each passing word you weave I am more and more mesmerized by your incredible talent… and you incredible gift… you are completely and absolutely brilliant. Tina lost her family when she lost herseld after losing the baby, Lots of family goes through losing a child most time they become closer.with Tina she just kept pushing Bette futher away. So she can’t blame every thing on Bette. When Bette finally fought back.she had lost Tina but not the baby they had dreamed about.them Tina took that away. Why live if you can’t have your dreams. thanks
Wow Deean! It was painful to read your story. The way you are unveiling Bette’s downward spiral due to Tina’s personal vendetta against her is very realistic. We could feel all the sad emotions that Bette is struggling with. Also, you pictured here the unconditional love that Bette’s friends have for her. Helena’s gesture to speak on Bette’s behalf brought a smile to our faces. Although it seemed that her arguments ended on deaf ears (Tina’s). Having Bette at the hospital only complicates things, in a way. However, Tina’s resolve to talk to Bette hopefully it leads to some positive result. Can’t wait to see where you are leading this story. PPS Lucero & Marsha (Prouds Salsa Aunties to the ever loving JC and Eunichick)
