The Dying of the Light Part 4
It cuts through the flesh.
Blood, muscle and bone.
Glass broken, refection erased.
If I can not see – do I exist?
Hope Bleeds.
Free.
Pain. It’s nice to feel it physically. To feel anything. To watch the blood run a river down my hand.
The clear, pure glass lodged under the skin, like a anchor is an existence far out of reach.
Each heartbeat draining more life. Bringing the brink of darkness closer and closer. Close enough to taste… to embrace.
“Honey, I’m home.” Alice calls from the foyer, dropping overstuffed bags of clothing and supplies. “Bette?” She calls again. As she walks down the hall she hears a soft cry. “Bette?” She cries, frantically, running into the living room.
She found Bette, resting against the side of the lounge. Figuring that she was having a nightmare, she cautiously approached, finding that instead of sleeping, Bette was clutching at her left hand. Blood was running down onto the floor, littered with shards of glass and awash in blood.
“Oh my god, Bette.” Alice cried, vaulting over the back of the sofa and gently cradling her left hand. “What the fuck happened?” She questioned, while trying to figure out what to do. Should she pull out the glass that was imbedded in Bette’s wrist? No, no. She remembered a show she watched, you can’t remove the object as it is stopping the bleeding.
“Bette honey?” Alice calls, worried about the paler of her friend.
Bette’s blinked at her, eyes heavy and dazed. “Alice” she slurred, “I miss Angel.”
Gently, Alice carresses Bette’s blood stained cheek, “I know you do honey.”
Tiredly, Bette asks “Think I’ll see her again?”
Silently, Alice begins to cry at the desolate look on Bette’s face. “Yes, you’ll see her again.”
Bette nods at Alice, before looking down at her hand. She slowly turns it back and forth as if she is looking for something. Waiting for it to tell her something that she needs to know.
“I think I’m going to diappear before that happens Al. I’m so tired.” Bette sighed, her breathing becoming more shallow. She lifts up her injured arm and indicates to it with her head, “I think I hurt my hand.” As if exhausted she rests her head back against the arm of the lounge.

Love this story…so painful for all involved. Hopefully, Tina can calm down and see things from Bette’s point of view. She needs to see Bette and let her know she won’t take Angie away again. Bette needs a reason to want to live. PPS!!
Hello Dee… with each passing chapter you create such a powerful story… I love how you begin each entry with such a vivid and powerful passages… each word evokes such a powerful response from my literary soul… I am thankful that you have finally shown us what Tina has been up to… yes I understand her fear and her pain for what ‘Bette’ had done… she panicked when she thought she was going to lose her family… but rather then be the adult… rather then see the fear and the utter loss of the woman you claim to ‘love’ Tina chose to seek refuge in her power… and in turn destroy the soul of her ‘soulmate’ if Bette recovers completely and sometimes these physical injuries have a way of manifesting within the primal emotional injuries that are already there… sometimes the body refuses to seek healing if the soul is beyond repair… I hope that with a gentle caress of her daughter and some soothing words… and maybe forgiveness from her ‘lover’ we might find Bette on the journey to recover her soul… and in return maybe just maybe her passion and zeal for life… you my friend are amazing… with each passing word you weave I am more and more mesmerized by your incredible talent… and you incredible gift… you are completely and absolutely brilliant. Tina lost her family when she lost herseld after losing the baby, Lots of family goes through losing a child most time they become closer.with Tina she just kept pushing Bette futher away. So she can’t blame every thing on Bette. When Bette finally fought back.she had lost Tina but not the baby they had dreamed about.them Tina took that away. Why live if you can’t have your dreams. thanks
Wow Deean! It was painful to read your story. The way you are unveiling Bette’s downward spiral due to Tina’s personal vendetta against her is very realistic. We could feel all the sad emotions that Bette is struggling with. Also, you pictured here the unconditional love that Bette’s friends have for her. Helena’s gesture to speak on Bette’s behalf brought a smile to our faces. Although it seemed that her arguments ended on deaf ears (Tina’s). Having Bette at the hospital only complicates things, in a way. However, Tina’s resolve to talk to Bette hopefully it leads to some positive result. Can’t wait to see where you are leading this story. PPS Lucero & Marsha (Prouds Salsa Aunties to the ever loving JC and Eunichick)
