Tina met Josie in her sophomore year in college. Josie was a liberal arts major, and a very free spirit. She smoked pot, dressed in crazy clothes and pried Tina out of her shell. She also opened Tina’s eyes to the many social issues that she now had a passion for. They attended many protests together and had even spent the evening in jail together for it. Tina knew Josie would understand and be able to give her some advice. Tina picked up the phone and dialed her old friends number.

Josie: “Hello, TINA KENNARD?”

Tina: “How did you know it was me?”

Josie: “Caller ID silly, to what do I owe the pleasure?

Tina: “Oh Josie, it’s been so long since we talked. I miss you and I am in desperate need of some advice. I need you friend! Could we possibly get together today sometime?”

Josie: “Well I am in your neck of the woods, why don’t I just come by, you can make me some coffee. I’ll be done running my errands here soon. How about 10:00am?”

Tina: “Great! I’ll see you then.”

Tina took the next few minutes to straighten herself and her apartment up before Josie came. She put some coffee on and tried to relax. She had so much on her mind she felt like she was going to explode. “Calm down Tina,” she told herself as she opened a bottle of Zanax and washed it down with a glass of water.

Josie arrived exactly at 10am ringing the doorbell as Tina rushed from the kitchen to welcome her old friend. Josie arrived dressed in a long multi-colored peasant skirt, black tank top and a funky maroon jacket with a pink ribbon for breast cancer pinned to the lapel. Tina always thought Josie was a natural beauty with her long dark wavy hair, deep brown eyes and slightly pale skin.  

Tina: “JOSIE, it’s sooo good to see you! Please come in.

Tina led Josie into her apartment and gave her a huge hug to which she immediately began to cry.

Tina: “Oh god, I’m so sorry,” she said as she wiped her eyes and tried to put on her best fake smile.
