    The Alterna-L-Word

    Chapter Two

    Meanwhile, at the Planet…

“Here you go,” said Jake, placing the iced coffee in front of Randy.

“Thanks Jacqu…I mean Jake,” said Randy.

“Jesus Randy it’s not that hard?”

“I think it’s stupid you’re even going through with this. Just go to Jefferson with me,” said Randy.

“It’s not about going to the school…”

    Randy scoffed.

“Well, it is…but not only. I’m trying to prove a point,”

    “Which is?”

“Girls can do anything that guys can do,”

“Except pee standing up,” said Randy cracking a grin.

    “That’s debatable,” matched Jake.

“I thought Kenny was supposed to be here by now,”

“Yeah, he and Karen were supposed to meet us for brunch,”

    “There’s Karen,”

    “Where?”

    Officer Crane approaches the table.

“Hey Kare Bear?” said Randy shooting Karen a wink.

“Hey guys,” said Karen, sitting down at the table.

“Where’s your better half?” asked Jake.

“I left him at home. He’s acting weird.  Tell me something though. Do either of you know a Dana?”

Jake shakes his head but Randy has long since left the conversation and is now fixated on one and only one person.

    “Randy…RANDY?!”

    “Huh..what?”

“What’s wrong with you?” asked Karen giving her the once over. Jake taps Karen’s shoulder and points in the direction of the object of Randy’s attention.

“Honestly Randy you should just talk to her,” said Karen, spearing a piece of cantaloupe from her fruit salad.

This statement brings Randy out of her reverie as she begins to shake her head emphatically. “No way you guys. She’s like…and I’m like. Plus I’m way too shy. Plus, she probably doesn’t even like chicks.”

“Excuses. Excuses,” said Karen, rising from her seat, “You’ll never know unless you ask?”

Randy just dropped her head on the table.

Karen sighed looking at Jake, “I tried. I’ll see you to later okay?”

Randy raised her head, looking hopeful, “Radar?” she asked brightly.

    “Probably,” said Karen.

“Alright,” said Randy, gradually becoming enthralled with the fine specimen now sitting two tables away from them.

    “You’re so pathetic,” said Jake.

    “What?” said Randy defensively.
