After choice wine during dinner and a Benedictine and Brandy for dessert we decided to take a stroll down to the beach, in anticipation of seeing our first Hawaiian sunset.
There were a few other people who seemingly had the same thing in mind but they were off by themselves, in their own quiet worlds. It was easy to push them out of the picture and enjoy our own company privately. We sat down, with our legs crossed, on the clean, white sand. There were scattered rain clouds in the distant sky that made it grey and dark but search as we did, we could not find the sun. Then it dawned on us that we were on the north part of the island and the sun was setting on the western side, behind us. We were at first embarrassed but then amused and had a good laugh over it. The kind of laugh both of us used to share in the past, so often and so easily.
When we settled down, we simply watched the cloud formations and lapsed into a serene, peaceful comfort zone.
After a while, I looked over at Bette, who was staring off into what was soon beginning to be the night.
“What are you thinking about?” I asked.
She looked away, as if I had just invaded a very personal thought and shook her head. “Nothing.”
“Something.”
She glanced at me, “Okay, well….it’s the first quiet moment I’ve had since we left L.A. and I have to admit I slipped back to Tina.”
“What was your toast? About thinking of the future and not the past?”
“I know but I just automatically went there.”
“Do you wish she was here, instead of me?”
“No, not any more.” She glanced at me with a smile, then became reflective for a moment. “I was thinking how hard I worked at getting us back to where we used to be but it never happened.”
“God knows you tried Bette, but it takes two.”
“Maybe it’s a hormonal thing. Like after Boo was born everything changed in her body and she….she didn’t want me anymore.”
What a fool she is, I thought but I said, “I know how hard it’s been for you with her being so cold to you. No real companionship, no affection, no…….” I faltered.

Spectacular scenery with tender affection for each other.
Your description of Mama’s brought back a lot of good memories. Before I went to Maui a friend told me about Mama’s and said, “its a little pricey.” After we went and I paid the bill, I went back to the hotel and e-mailed that friend telling her she had misled me–it was a lot pricey! Still, wouldn’t trade those memories for anything! And we also saw the sunrise from Mt. Haleakala (hope I spelled that right!) and it was spectacular! Thanks!
Thanks sissee for this maui story, it seems to me that Maui is really a beautiful place to visit. Your description of the scenery are great. Can’t wait to see what future will hold for Bette and Sissee in Maui, and many other places…. love the adventures of B & S!! Thanks for giving us such pleasurable entertainment here with your fictional imagination.

September, Thanks for the welcome back. You asked if Sissee will make the first move. Forgive me, but I have to say I am enjoying this story the second time around as if someone else wrote it, even though I do make changes to my own work here and there. But the romantic surfaces in me when it comes to just how they, shall we say, “unite” again. I know what’s coming and I really and truly love the scene.
Welcome back. Great update. Bette seems a little holding back all through I think deep down she still got those feelings. Now I wonder will Sissee make the first move?

kerbergin47, Yes, I am back from my trip. The smoke from 800 Carlifornia forest fires (caused by lightning) brought me home early. It was really smoky up in the mountains. That’s okay, I can keep a closer handle on my story at home which means I am already preparing my next chapter. I edit what I wrote in 2006 but a lot of it stays as it was originally written. Thanks for the good Sunday wishes. I promise you I will have a great Sunday and here’s hoping you do too, my friend.
Id18, Thanks for sharing your Mama’s experience. I can still see those fantastic drinks and the awesome food. It was almost too pretty to eat and drink. I am sure you will find more adventures here that will be familiar to you. It’s my favorite Hawaiian island.
