Ten Minutes Later (Time of Day 33)
Tina almost wondered if she was hearing things, or if there really was a knock at the door. Checking through the peep-hole, she saw Bette leaning against the jam.
Nervous, she opened the door, hoping that she was not inviting round two of the earlier tirade back into the apartment.
“May I come in?”
The temptation to blurt ‘no’ and slam the door was still there, but it was a temptation that Tina knew she had to fight against. She stepped back, and indicated that Bette should enter.
Even after closing the door, she continued to lean against it. Preparing herself for whatever might come next.
What did come next surprised her greatly.
“I am Elizabeth Porter, daughter of Melvin. I can be a real ass.”
Again, Tina found it prudent to hold her tongue.
“I’ve been sitting outside for the last ten minutes, trying to think of what to say to you. Well, first I spent three minutes trying to find a comfortable place to sit. Then seven more minutes thinking of what to say.”
“And you came up with that?”
“Actually, I thought introductions were in order, so that you know I come by my behaviors honestly.”
“Oh.”
“I wanted to say…” Bette stopped for a moment.
Tina held her breath, still unsure what might follow.
“I love you, Tina.”
“Wha…?” Tina’s response stalled upon delivery.
“I love you. I am in love with you. And despite all that, I can do things that are horrendously stupid and hurtful.”
“Like?” Had she not been so shocked at the words, Tina could have come up with her own list, especially looking to the short term, she decided that she would rather Bette continue with whatever she was going to say.
Although Bette didn’t appear to want to be the one to continue the litany, she also was not one to back down. “Like scolding you on your choice of babysitter. The girl tonight was probably perfectly adequate and was quite sensible to call in assistance.”
At this point Tina was not quite sure even what to say. But she knew that wherever they were, they had gotten to that point together, the good and the bad. “Bette, it’s not just you.”

How perfect, I am glad that Bette went back. It’s good to admit when you make a mistake. Bette was certainly an ass, but she made up for it. Thanks for the terrific story, looking forward to you next post!!!!!
You’re one of the best things going on this site at this time! Thank you!
I absolutely love your writing. Thanks for this.
God, is Bette doing a 12 step child of Melvin program? “My name is Bette and I am a fuck up.” Well, I hope her higher power will eventually let her own up to her own shit. Yeah, Melvin, blah, blah, yaddah yaddah yaddah. But when it comes down to it, there’s nobody there and nobody to blame but Bette and Tina.
Pseud, That was perfect. I am so happy that Bette got past herself and made to effort to sort things out with Tina. Bette admitted her true feelings for Tina and apologized, after realizing her stupidity over the babysitter comments. I could sense the sexual tension as both gals declared their love. Yes, there is a long road to walk but both their eyes are open and their hearts are willing to take the chance on a brighter future together. Just awesome to have them sharing these stolen moments. Now that there is honesty a stronger foundation can be built. One that is based on respect and love can weather all storms. Now I can’t wait to see how their date goes as the repressed sexual chemistry is in danger over overtaking their emotional joining. Many thanks for making this a perfect read. Your Loyal Fan.
dare we believe that this time they will succeed?…bring it on…geez that blouse wore to her dad’s funeral was ugly? who chooses those ugly clothes that they often put her in??? unbelievable that such a gorgeous woman can be made to look like such a frump…bows, frills etc do not suit the woman…excuse me I’m raving & its not your fault…PPS
Yeah, that was totally the better option. Jacques and his posse are no match for a good old-fashioned declaration of love. Bette Porter: keepin’ it real, old school. Sweet. Well… I hope that no-holds-barred after-dinner chat they have planned doesn’t stop them moving forward. I’m almost dreading it… but I will, of course, be reading. Excellent pseud, thanks for the update.
owning your shit. just had the opportunity to do just that at work. lots of fun. thanks.
You are a master- both of these women are so well defined and trying to so hard to be true to themselves and their love it is such a pleasure to read. Thanks.
What a great line. Please let them succeed. Take it slow girls, you’ll get there. Love these little tidbits.
Glad B&T made up. Just love the story and how it is progressing. Many thanks, Pseud.
Knew you wouldn’t let Bette leave it like that. Glad that they’ve declared their love and are willing to work this out. I know that I should stop reading your story as I don’t want it to influence my own story, but it’s so damn good pseud! Thanks for posting. Can’t wait for the next update.
“I am Elizabeth Porter, daughter of Melvin. I can be a real ass.” I need to remember this for the times I’ll fuck up in the future.
please, please, let them succeed
They better succeed. Although, I’m guessing there will be more misunderstandings..and hurt feelings before that happens. I hope the dinner goes well. One thing can go well, right?
I so love this story!!! Thanks PPS
This is good!
