    Summer Vacation. Chapter 14

    Previously:

“I’ve known a little over a year …” Lottie explained, “I found out on my eighteenth birthday …”

    Bette’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion,

“From your father?” Bette asked, wondering why a man would wait over ten years to tell his daughter a thing like that …

Lottie shook her head slowly, “not my dad …” she paused, exhaling slowly, no longer meeting Bette’s gaze, “I got a letter … in a birthday card … from moms lawyer …” she continued,

Bette nodded, “The lawyer in Virginia …?”

“Yeah … him … the card was originally from mom … explaining things,” Lottie continued, her voice close to a whisper,

Bette leant in towards her, her own breath quietening as she struggled to hear Lottie’s words,

“Then I went out to see him … his name’s Roger,” said Lottie … “and he gave me a bunch of mom’s stuff …” she added, her eyes wandering over the folder which lay in front of Bette on the table,

“You went to Virginia …?” Bette asked, “alone?”

Lottie nodded, “Dad banned me from speaking to him when he found out, and took away my cell phone so I skipped school and booked a flight on my Amex”

Bette let out a roaring laugh, it certainly wasn’t funny, but in a way it was her best possible response,

Lottie giggled, surprised by Bette’s laughter,

“You’re very determined,” Bette said through her laughter, a small hint of pride in her voice, she admired Lottie’s guts, if the kid was going to be related to her then it helped that she already liked her, it helped that she already thought Lottie was full of many of the qualities she herself admired,

Lottie smiled, aware it was meant as a compliment so she agreeably took it that way, she paused, feeling perhaps they had reached full circle on the ‘light’ and ‘easy’ conversation,

“Bette …” Lottie mumbled, “Mom’s lawyer wants to talk to you …”

    Chapter Fourteen.

Bette raised an eyebrow … “He does? … why?”

Lottie paused … where to start …

“Well … um … you see … er … Mom kinda had this … charity …” Lottie blurted out finally, her eyebrows indicating her own confusion at her choice of words, her own confusion at explaining to Bette the ins and outs of a family trust fund which spanned decades and left her as barely an adult in charge of more money than she could ever truly imagine …

    1. How crazy to not only find out you have another sibling, but also that there’s (most likely) indispensible wealth available too you…. Glad to see you back, hope to see more very soon. (And I have this feeling Tina can make Bette feel better about EVERYTHING ;) )

    3. Great chapter – beautifully written! Intense stuff to find out about. Can’t wait to see what happens next. Love how carefree Angelica is about everything – just accepting it as it comes…what else can we do. Also love how you show them all caring and loving each other. Thank you!

    4. Thanks so much for posrting It hard to believe that Bettes Mother didnt get in touch with Bette after Bette became an adult. That will hurt more than anything else. thanks

    5. Did Maxine leave anything to Bette since she had followed Bette’s life? She knew about Bette in school and her young life right after school. Can’t wait for the next chapter.

    6. It hard to believe a mother could abandon her child and think that money will make it all better. Interesting to see what Bette reaction will be to her part of the inheritance. PPS

    7. I wonder how much money there is… Peabody amounts of wealth? Ker-ching! I’m actually more interested in seeing how Lottie and Bette make up for the years of not knowing each other existed. Can’t wait for the next chapter, sofa, I was wondering where you’d got to. Cheers

    8. Great to see another post from you, I’ve missed this story, it’s so wonderful….and Tina is so great :o)) Post soon please, can’t wait for Virginia, but I’m sure Angle will sleep with Lottie and not her moms :o))

    9. This story is great. Humour an intrigue. A great character in Angelica and you have to love Alice! Some nice Bette and Tina scenes too!!
