“I am thinking of getting a couple of cats “Emma admitted
“I think it’s a great idea mom – we will be happy to cat sit when you are off on your holidays”
“Thanks – I know you shouldn’t make decisions so soon after a breakdown in a relationship but I think two cats would make the house seem less empty “
“They would always be pleased to see me if nothing else “she added sighing “Do you like cats Bette?”
“Love them – and dogs “
Tina picked up her wine – at least things had started well. She knew there was a long way to go between her mother and her partner but this was an encouraging start. She had wondered if Bette had just said that she wanted to put the past behind them because of what it meant to Tina – but so far this seemed genuine. Emma looked at both of them
“Those papers you found”
She said – Tina looked at Bette and back at Emma.
“Yes “
“Did you read them?”
“I don’t read law “Tina said “I know they are all words but that’s as far as I get”
“Bette?”
“I read enough to know why Kate wanted them and didn’t want you to see it”
Emma nodded “It’s complicated so I don’t blame you for not really understanding Tina but basically its proof that Kate was breaching the terms of her contract with Kennard, Trueman and Black. We can fire her without compensation for what she signed in that contract – which is with a rival law firm Tina “
“What! “
Tina looked first at Bette who nodded and then at Emma
“Are you sure?” she shook her head violently “Of course you are – it’s your business to be sure “
“It looks like she wasn’t just betraying me – she was happy to do the same to the firm. Even if she wanted to come back to work – after this – she won’t be allowed to. It’s also a breach of professional ethics “
“Does she know this yet?” Tina asked
Emma exhaled “That’s the thing sweetheart – if I don’t act on this there is no guarantee she will drop this plan of hers. This isn’t just about me and her anymore – this is about the career of hundreds of people we employ. I have to pass this to my colleagues and my professional body. She can try and take me down – that is one thing – that’s personal but I won’t let her damage anyone else – and this is your inheritance Tina. If anything happens to me – all my 53% share of the firm would be yours… I was always going to leave the firm to you and Kate in my will. When I got back I changed that – you get everything now Tina and what Bette found – that safeguards it “

Ah Ha! Revelations abound. Great chapter, Good humor (or humour) evident and a sincere attempt to be cordial, open and honest from all parties. Bette does seem so mature and measured in her responses to Emma. Kate was/is a sneaky little ferret. Thanks for the rapid posting. I hope this story goes on for quite some time. Please don’t leave us. We <3 you.

I am sure Tina will reward Bette well for being so well behaved during lunch. It is good to see Emma and Bette getting along well which shows how much Tina means to them. I am loving the intrigue with Kate joining a rival firm.

Damn Kate! At this rate she will be standing in the subway with a tin cup. I hope Alex is as rich as everyone think but Miss Kate has shot herself in the pocketbook. Glad to see Bette and Emma try to make it for Tina’s sake. Emma knows that Bette is smart and kind no threat to her and she needs to play nice to keep Tina in her life. Thanks for the three posts. The Easter Bunny came early.

Thanks for all the posts. Happy that Bette and Emma are getting along well. Kate has really turned out to be a prized rat. All this time we thought Emma was the rat and evil one now we find out that Kate has those titles well in hand. Hope Emma tells Tina about Kate having all the affairs in the past and Emma knew about them all along. She loved Kate and forgave her the affairs. Still Kate was not content to just leave, she has to try and wreck everything that they had built. this divorce hearing is going to be a toe curling, screaming rant from Kate. She will end up with nothing more than the pre-nup and if she isn’t careful she may forfeit that as well as her license to practice. Then if the girlfriend is not as well off as everyone assumes, then she will be out on her hiny with nothing and no one. She will certainly lose Tina when all this comes to light. I just hope she does not turn on Tina as well, that would just take Tina down to nothing, at least for a little time but Bette won’t let that happen. Thanks for posting.

You are on a roll Ally! Didn’t see that betrayal coming from Kate. Wow, Kate has just become the biggest scrub. First with cheating on Emma then with breach of contract to Emma’s firm. Don’t know if she can make amends with Tina at this point. Great story!

When I have fantasies while writing my Bette and Tina stories I think of who I would like to swoop in as the ultimate ass kicker if Bette is otherwise engaged, or in jail. I haven’t used it yet but I imagine a psychic mash up that includes Joyce, Peggy Peabody and when Bette revives or disentangles she finishes the egregious toad with a swift lizard skinned toe kick back to their slimy pond. Viola’ all that’s left is to clean the walls of blood and hair and probably some dry cleaning bills. VERY happy to be reading your stories! Thanks so much for your writing. BLACKBIRD
This version of Kate worries me and should worry Emma and the Porters as well. If this thing gets to court I wouldn’t put it past Kate to bring up things like what happened in college b/w them and the Porters just to be spiteful and regardless of the collateral damage (Bette and Tina). The Porters and Emma might need to have an uncomfortable conversation with their daughters sooner rather than later. I think the girls can handle it and will appreciate the honesty. If they find out the truth from Kate in some mean spirited way I don’t think they’ll side with Kate, but they might both lose some trust in their parents. Post soon!
I am so glad for Tina that Emma & Bette are getting along. Too bad Kate is being so revengeful. Never thought she would stoop that low. Hope Emma takes action. She needs to protect her employees from the firm as well as Tina’s future. Can’t wait for next update.
