Tina wondered what Bette would say – she knew that her experiences with Ashley and Jesse had done a lot to sway Bette towards investigating crimes. Bette took a sip of her beer and put the glass down carefully on the beer mat
“I guess I didn’t want to do anything that was predictable. I wanted a real challenge – and this is out of my comfort zone. It dirty which when I was a teenager was something that freaked me- and it’s all about putting a puzzle together. For as long as I can remember I have been interested in crime – not so much law but crime and the people who commit them. I didn’t see myself joining the Police but this is so much more cerebral and that appeals to me “
“How’s your stomach holding up?” Emma asked – that answer had impressed her. Bette had clearly given things a great deal of thought – but then she was a very thoughtful person
Bette smiled “Better than I thought it would “
“You will throw up at some point “
Bette smiled and lent back in her seat “There are 8 of us on the course and at the start of term we all put $10 into a kitty – the last person to be sick gets $80. I intend to get that money”
“How many of you are left?” Tina asked
“Four “
“I am not sure I could cope with all those bugs “Tina admitted
Bette laughed “The other Saturday I was reading about fingerprints and Tina was reading about food hygiene – one of us doesn’t like cockroaches “
“Horrible things “Tina said
“I once defended someone and the entire prosecution case rested on the contents of a cockroaches stomach – I have to say I am with my daughter – horrible things “
“We had mice when I was a second year – lots of the bloody things – I am not sure if they are worse than cockroaches or not”
“How did you fix the mice problem -I assume it was you who stood up to them “
“Well I didn’t do the standing on the stool screaming routine “ Bette said dryly “I bought traps – the old fashioned sort and baited them with chocolate and bacon – it’s a myth that they like cheese. Them for the others we borrowed someone’s cat “
“And did the cat do the business?”
“He delivered a highly eviscerated one to someone I was sharing the house with and she screamed so much we had to abandon the cat idea – shame”

Ah Ha! Revelations abound. Great chapter, Good humor (or humour) evident and a sincere attempt to be cordial, open and honest from all parties. Bette does seem so mature and measured in her responses to Emma. Kate was/is a sneaky little ferret. Thanks for the rapid posting. I hope this story goes on for quite some time. Please don’t leave us. We <3 you.

I am sure Tina will reward Bette well for being so well behaved during lunch. It is good to see Emma and Bette getting along well which shows how much Tina means to them. I am loving the intrigue with Kate joining a rival firm.

Damn Kate! At this rate she will be standing in the subway with a tin cup. I hope Alex is as rich as everyone think but Miss Kate has shot herself in the pocketbook. Glad to see Bette and Emma try to make it for Tina’s sake. Emma knows that Bette is smart and kind no threat to her and she needs to play nice to keep Tina in her life. Thanks for the three posts. The Easter Bunny came early.

Thanks for all the posts. Happy that Bette and Emma are getting along well. Kate has really turned out to be a prized rat. All this time we thought Emma was the rat and evil one now we find out that Kate has those titles well in hand. Hope Emma tells Tina about Kate having all the affairs in the past and Emma knew about them all along. She loved Kate and forgave her the affairs. Still Kate was not content to just leave, she has to try and wreck everything that they had built. this divorce hearing is going to be a toe curling, screaming rant from Kate. She will end up with nothing more than the pre-nup and if she isn’t careful she may forfeit that as well as her license to practice. Then if the girlfriend is not as well off as everyone assumes, then she will be out on her hiny with nothing and no one. She will certainly lose Tina when all this comes to light. I just hope she does not turn on Tina as well, that would just take Tina down to nothing, at least for a little time but Bette won’t let that happen. Thanks for posting.

You are on a roll Ally! Didn’t see that betrayal coming from Kate. Wow, Kate has just become the biggest scrub. First with cheating on Emma then with breach of contract to Emma’s firm. Don’t know if she can make amends with Tina at this point. Great story!

When I have fantasies while writing my Bette and Tina stories I think of who I would like to swoop in as the ultimate ass kicker if Bette is otherwise engaged, or in jail. I haven’t used it yet but I imagine a psychic mash up that includes Joyce, Peggy Peabody and when Bette revives or disentangles she finishes the egregious toad with a swift lizard skinned toe kick back to their slimy pond. Viola’ all that’s left is to clean the walls of blood and hair and probably some dry cleaning bills. VERY happy to be reading your stories! Thanks so much for your writing. BLACKBIRD
This version of Kate worries me and should worry Emma and the Porters as well. If this thing gets to court I wouldn’t put it past Kate to bring up things like what happened in college b/w them and the Porters just to be spiteful and regardless of the collateral damage (Bette and Tina). The Porters and Emma might need to have an uncomfortable conversation with their daughters sooner rather than later. I think the girls can handle it and will appreciate the honesty. If they find out the truth from Kate in some mean spirited way I don’t think they’ll side with Kate, but they might both lose some trust in their parents. Post soon!
I am so glad for Tina that Emma & Bette are getting along. Too bad Kate is being so revengeful. Never thought she would stoop that low. Hope Emma takes action. She needs to protect her employees from the firm as well as Tina’s future. Can’t wait for next update.
