“Getting any ideas?” Bette asked through a broad grin.

            “You could say that,” Shane replied, as she turned to look back at Molly, who was lulling Angie back to sleep.

            Watching Molly so at ease with her daughter, Bette offered, “She’s a natural. She’ll be a great mother some day.”

            “I know,” Shane said, as a beaming smile spread across her lips to her eyes, for Molly had turned toward Shane, with her cheek still pressed upon Angie’s curl laden head, and smiled at her, her green eyes ablaze in the moonlight.

            Later that night, long after Molly had put Angie back down and they had returned home, Shane lay awake in their bed, her eyes scanning the ceiling above her. Turning her head to the side, she watched Molly’s breathing, to see if she was yet asleep. Noticing the uneven staccato rhythm of her breathing, Shane knew she was still awake. Rolling onto her side, she reached out and touching her gently on the shoulder, she whispered, “Moll?”

            “Yeah, babe?” Molly replied, sleepily, her face still buried into her pillow.

            Shane knew what she wanted to say in that moment, yet still faltered to find the words. Molly rolled over onto her side to face Shane. Upon seeing such a tender look on her face, Molly smiled and rested her hand upon Shane’s cheek. “What is it babe?” she asked, softly.

            “It’s nothing,” Shane said, as she let her eyes fall from Molly’s intimate gaze. “It’s just…,” she stammered, as she let herself be lost in Molly’s eyes again. “Seeing you with Angie…I don’t know…It made me start to think, you know?”

            “About what?”

            “You know…” Shane replied, hoping that Molly wouldn’t make her say the words.

            Molly smiled. She knew exactly what Shane meant, yet she couldn’t help but ask again. She loved seeing Shane nervous and flustered. It was endearing.

            Shane sighed as she replied, “About us having a baby. Do you ever think about that?”

            “Of course I do, baby. You’re the person I want to build a family with, you know that,” Molly answered, as she drew Shane into her arms and kissed her tenderly.
