Shane and Molly: A Love Story – Chapter 14

Shane’s smile widens as she lowers her head. Looking at her through heavy lidded eyes, Shane says, “Nothing. You’re just gorgeous. I was just thinking how I’m lucky to be with you.” Molly smiles brightly and returns to putting on her makeup. Shane calls out to Shay, “You ready yet, bud?”

Calling out from his bedroom, “Yeah. I’ll be right there.”

Having finished her makeup, Molly is now packing up her purse. “Wallet, makeup, tissues, keys, speech,” Molly remarks, as she places the items in her bag. She looks around, feeling like she forgot something. After a moment, she exclaims, “The rings! Fuck! Where are the rings?”

“I have them, Moll,” Shane says, as she pulls them out of her pocket. “See?”

“Oh, Christ. Thank God! My mother would have killed me,” Molly says, breathing in a sigh of relief.

Shane tucks the rings back into her pocket as Molly grabs her purse. They walk out into the hallway, just as Shay emerges from his bedroom.

“You look very handsome,” Molly says to Shay, as she neatens his tie.

                “Thanks,” Shay says, beaming.

Shane places her hand on the back of Shay’s neck and steers him towards the door. “Let’s go. We have to drop you off at Bette and Tina’s before we go over to Phyllis’s. They’re going to bring you later. Moll, you got my keys, right?” Shane asks as she opens the door to let them through.

“Yeah, babe, right here,” Molly says, pulling them out and handing them to her.

Shane takes the keys, touches the box in her pocket to make sure it is still there, and closes the door behind her as she steps out.

As they arrive at Phyllis’s, the first person Shane and Molly encounter as they enter the door is the wedding planner, Michael. “Where have you two been?” Michael asks, excitedly, ushering them into the house and up the stairs. Just as Shane is about to say something, Michael interrupts and says, “It doesn’t matter anyway. Just get upstairs. Your mother would like to see you Molly. She’s in the master bedroom. And Joyce wants to see you Shane. She’s in Molly’s old room.” As they reach the second floor, Michael spins around and bounds back down the stairs, yelling after the caterer that has just walked by. Shane and Molly turn to look at each other and laugh.
