    Seemingly Lost Chptr. 3

"Hey Bette, long night pining away for the forbidden?"

In an instant Bette stopped mid way from sitting down and shot Alice a look of hate and hurt.

"Jesus Al." Shane said out of disbelief for the things that tumbled out of Alice’s mouth.

    "Fuck you, Al."

"I’m sorry. That was uncalled for, really I’m sorry." Bette just shook off the apology knowing that it was genuine and as much from the heart as she could get. Even though her friends were the only ones to know about what she felt for Tina, they had no idea that Justine was still "dating" plenty of other women without Tina’s knowledge.

"It’s alright Alice. I did have a long night. Did you guy’s know that Justine was gonna ask Tina to marry her?"

"She told you she was gonna ask her?" Shane asked jumping to the edge of her seat.

    "No she already asked her."

"Man, I’m sorry Bette. Tina must’ve said yes, huh?"

    "No, she told her maybe."

"Well that’s good news isn’t it? I mean she didn’t say yes so maybe she holding out for something special?"

"Or maybe she’s waiting to talk to me about it. You know how she is about big decisions. She couldn’t sleep for a week before she accepted Justine’s invitation for a first date. I can only imagine wh…" and before Bette could finish her sentence her cell phone interrupted her. By the tune that it was playing she knew that it was Tina calling her, no doubt to check and see if she was alright. Bette rolled her head back and let out an enormous groan of frustration.

"Tina" was all that Alice mouthed towards Shane.

    "If she calls you guys…"

"We never saw you." Shane interrupted.

"Thanks, I’ll see y’all later." and with heavy feet and heart Bette headed off towards the one place where her sorrows seem to fade for the moment.

    ………………………………….

"Hi you’ve reached Bette Porter I’m sorry I’m not available to ta…" Tina hung up the phone exasperated and angry with the situation. Bette was clearly ignoring her for some reason and it was bothering her that the reason was escaping her.

    1. I still don’t think Bette should be the one to tell Tina about Justine (paging Shane McCutcheon, Shane McCutcheon), but she SHOULD tell her about how she feels. And she definitely should stop acting all weird with Tina. Best of luck on the job front. Sounds like you should make your exit from the present one ASAP. Good luck with the car, too. Hang in there girl. I can’t explain it (fairy godmother?) but when things have been most dire for me, shit just worked out. Once over a month behind on the rent, found hundred dollar bills on the street. Lying in bed in a diabetic coma with an hour or two left, co-workers located my brother just as he was leaving to do the laundry. No really, no shit. So hang on.

    2. OK… I think this is where my comment is supposed to be… so here goes… My goodness this chapter is so touching! I could feel Bette’s pain, angst, love, lust, longing… *sigh* My poor Bette. Tina, open your eyes, sweetheart! You’re going to miss out on true love and your soulmate. I can understand that Bette is in a quite precarious situation with her cousin or whatever she is… but, the girl is a liar and a cheat. In my opinion, she doesn’t deserve loyalty. Obviously she doesn’t love Tina the way she should, IF she loves her at all. Looks to me as if she simply likes to have a trophy at home… all polished, pretty and waiting for her to come home… and a few trinkets to play with whenever the mood suits her. I find her character a bit disgusting. I hope Tina doesn’t marry her. I doubt what’s-her-name would even be hurt very much. Maybe her pride would suffer a blow or two, but certainly not her heart. And anyway, I wouldn’t give a rat’s @ss if she was hurt. She won’t get any sympathy from me. I love this stroy. The feelings I’m experiencing while reading this, are a tad intense, to say the least. You’re doing great with it. Keep it up, please. Hopefully, Tina and Bette will find each other despite the drama that I am sure will ensue. Please, post soon. This is like a good book that you simply hate to put down. Thanks!

    3. Tina does need to know but it should come from someone else and not Bette. Maybe set a trap so that Tina catches Justine with another woman and that way Tina catchers her red handed.

    4. I agree with funnyone…I have been there done that and it is so not pretty…the messenger always gets shot in the azz. I was waiting for Tina to walk into the diner while her and Shane were talking…lol. I am sorry you are going thru all that sh*t. Were do you work that your co-workers are dropping like flies? This is a crazy crazy world. I hope things start looking up for you real soon.

    5. Hey girl I’ve just caught up and love this story. I like how Bette is so thought driven. I’m all crossed up for you and believe it will work. Good luck.
