Candace looked at him with resentment in her eyes and said.

I think I could guess that one.  The only one I know as a next of ken is her boyfriend Dodger, and I am sure that he is the father of her baby too.  But right now all I want to do to him is put him in jail.  Please dont ask me to contact him because hes the reason shes lying here in this terrible state.  I want to help you doctor but I really couldnt.  I could be her lawyer if you think she needs one though.

Ok Candace.  Calm down, we dont really need him, and we are not sure if your friend here wants to press charges.  That would be your job as her legal rep. to make her agree with you.  All we could do is give you a hospital report of her condition and our medical opinion on the matter.  Also we want to make sure shed be looked after when she leaves here.  Thats all our concern right now, unless you want to contact the department of social services?

Candy:  No oh god no I dont want to do that.  I am going to take care of her and make sure she and her baby are well looked after.  Dont worry doctor.  Please dont report her case to anyone.  I am appointing myself as her lawyer.  I know shes not going to like it but right now she couldnt refuse.

Well thats very nice of you Candace.  I am sure you are a good friend and you sound like good a lawyer.  As soon as we finish here you could come and stay with her.  Now if you dont mind we have to see to your friend and finish our examinations.

Candy:  Yah sure ok doctor.  Thank you very much.  Thank you all, see you soon.

She left the room and closed the door behind her slowly.

Candace was a lot calmer now and had a big smile on her face.  Shed seen her friend and was reassured by her doctors.  She was so thankful and so happy.

The baby is going to make it; she is going to make it.  Oh thank you God, thank you god.  She said this out loud, jumping up and down.  She grabbed the nearest person walking by her and kissed it.  She looked up to see who it was and her face went all red and flushed.  She was mortified and suddenly she felt very shy.  It was Carmen.  Oh my god.  She felt so awkward and didnt know what to do.

Carmen looked at her all blushing and smiling too.

Carmen:  Candace what a coincidence, are you ok?  Is your friend ok?  I was just on my way home, Ive finished my shift.  

Candace was still blushing and looking shy and shaky a bit.

Candy:  Yah she is going to be ok, thank you.  Thats why I am so happy.  I am sorry to jump on you like that.  I couldnt help it I was so happy for my friend and her baby.  They both are going to make it, isn’t that great.  Thanks to you Carmen and to your team worker too.

Carmen:  Oh that is great Candace I am so happy for you and for your friend and her baby.  We only did our jobs really and the rest was in God’s hands and the toughness of your friend.  And please dont worry about the little incident I understand.  I would have done the same if I was in your place.  Do you know when shed get out?

Candy:  No not yet but the doctors are in there with her and they promised to let me know soon, but they are very hopeful, thank God.

Carmen:  Well thats great Candace.  Do you want me to wait with you?  I am going to have some coffee and something to eat after and I could do with the company if you are not too busy.

Candy:  No I dont mind, but I am not sure how long the doctors need in there, they might take a long time and I dont want to hold you up, unless you’re sure?  Maybe youre tired and would like an early night sleep!

Carmen:  No I am ok really.  I dont mind staying and besides I want to know what the doctors say too.  I am interested.

Candace looked at her and happily said:

Candy:  Ok, great.  Yes I would like to have a drink too.  It has been a long day for all of us.

Candace thought to herself but, I am not. I have never been . I am not a big coffee drinker!!!
