Planet Terror: The One Where Peggy Babysits
“I’m Peggy’s daughter.” Helena stepped forward and gave a snide look to the guard. “I’ll have you know that we have been surviving on our own for the duration of this crisis. We go where we like, when we like.”
The guard seemed to consider it, but before a decision could be made, Alice, Lara, Bette and Helena strode off, leaving the men behind to stew in confusion. They came upon a door to a set of stairs.
“That’s a lot of stairs from here.” Bette surmised. They were, afterall, on the twentieth floor.
“Well, you did say you needed a workout.” Alice joked. “lets try the roof first, anyway.”
When they found nothing but a blank space, dominated by empty helicopters, they went back down again.
“All right…” Lara said when they found themselves in the stairwell again. “Lets make our way down a few flights. We’ll ask the guards as we go.”
“When we get tired, we’ll take the elevators.” Alice added helpfully.
But they made better time than they thought they would on the stairs. Though, they still found no sign of their friends.
On the fifth floor, they ran into another surprise.
“Too quiet…” Bette said worridly. “No guards to greet us…I don’t like this.”
Looking out, they noticed that the hall was empty. The lights flickered slightly, remaining dim. This floor seemed older somehow, than the others. The wealthy occupants of the hotel had obviously decided that this was not good enough for them.
“How many doors?” Helena asked.
“Six…” Bette counted quickly. All that could be heard was the sound of their own heavy breathing. Even the baby was quiet, perched in the crook of Lara’s arm. Bette walked ahead, trying one of the doors. It was locked, so she hopefully tried the others. “All locked.” She said, returning. “Though…ok, let’s get keys for these. And a few extra guards.”
“Should we continue?” Alice asked. Somehow, they all sensed that this floor would hold answers. They just weren’t sure that they could face whatever they found behind the doors on their own.
Helena and Lara nodded, though Bette thought they were through. “Just a few more.” Helena said quietly, leading Bette away.

rofl @ funnyone … anyway … this story is excellent babe! Peggy is sarcastic as always, I’m intrigued, what are they doing with the people down below? where have catherine and dylan gone? and if they were taken, who took them? why is Bette watching ‘what the bleep’? (okay so I *know* the answer to that one) and why oh why does she fancy the woman from it … that’s not a good sign !!!! *wink*
This story is brilliant, especially because I just watched 28 Days Later for like the 500th time last night. So, they’re quarintining (sp?) the infected for what, to study them? See how long it takes for them to die? And how come Jaunty wasn’t quarintined too? Fucking rich people, they always have to do retarded stuff…anyways…good update…pps
My what a wonderful surprisse thought you bailed on us.
So good of you to throw we junkies a bone at long last. I think you’re a benevolent despot to your readers like Peggy is to her pool of infected. They seem to be immune, so there is light at the end of the tunnel. I suppose the rich won’t mind the origin if a cure/vaccination can be found.
You know, reflecting on that last comment, perhaps the sarcasm is a bit heavy. I don’t really think you’re a despot of any kind. However, if YOU reflect on it, the reason I’m a junkie is that I enjoy your writing so much.
Hiya, I normally don’t comment. Im a silent reader, lol. However this story is brilliant. I only started reading last week, but got up to date in like 3 days… and yeah a did kind of read some chapters at work… shhhhhI lover dawn of the dead and them movies, eventho i always get bad dreams somehow. I also got a bad dream after reading your story, which is a good thing, coz it means that your story affects me and interests me…. Don’t worry is nothing to do with your writting, but eberytime i see of one those movies i have a dream/night mare about it… lol. Anyway i love it and keep up the good work. Thanks for taking the time to entertain us talentless (in writing) folk… lol
On further reflection, how come everybody just barges into the bedroom? Don’t any of them know how to knock?
I missed this story! Thanks for taking the time to produce this installment under such challenging circumstances. No worries about the editing; if there was a drop-off in quality, I failed to detect it. I’ve been hugely entertained by this superbly written, multi-layered, and action-packed story from the get-go; it would make a mighty fine TV series. I’m also impressed by your refusal to confine your characters to an attitude of robotic stoicism, which seems to be typical of the genre. Bette’s outburst in this chapter was a perfectly human reaction to an intolerable situation. Finally, your warts-and-all portrayal of Peggy P rocks!
