Planet Terror: The One Where Peggy Babysits
Bette looked back over her shoulder, smiling when she saw Helena’s barely dressed state. “What the Bleep do we know…” She said.
“What?” Helena wrinkled her nose in confusion.
“A movie…something about the nature of reality…hey, come here.” Bette nearly growled the words, reaching behind and tugging on Helena’s bedsheet. “She’s cute.” Bette said with a smirk, pointing to the screen at the actress playing a bitter photographer.
Helena shrugged, sitting next to Bette on the couch. “Cheeky…” She teased. “Hitting on imaginary women when I’m right here with you.” They giggled and tossled around for a minute, getting comfortable and finding a way to sit or lay together that didn’t jam their limbs awkwardly together. Finally, Helena sighed happily as Bette’s head rested just above her breasts.
“The nature of reality…” Helena murmured into Bette’s hair. “Sounds deep.”
“I want everything to be ok.” Bette stated simply.
“I know.” Helena replied. She knew that Bette wasn’t talking about the movie. “I suppose this whole infection—its metaphorical somehow…”
“Fucking metaphors. I hate fucking metaphors.” Bette mumbled in grumpy response.
“How can you hate metaphors?” Helena asked. “How general. Anyway, I can’t say this is all going to turn out all right…”
“I want it to!” Bette whined. “I don’t care if I’m being petulant! I fucking hate this shit! I want to go and live happily ever after in a small home, with lots of beautiful art, and our daughter playing happily in the living room, and no guns, and no violence…”
“As do I.” Helena responded calmly. She reached around to rub Bette’s lower back firmly, trying to take away some of the tension they both shared—tension that buzzed between all of them. “but even without all of this…things are never that easy.”
“Why the fuck not.” Bette’s words were more of a statement than a question. On screen, a narrator explained the power of the mind, to create any reality a person chose.
Bette stuck her tongue out at the screen and had to be stopped by Helena before she threw the remote and broke the television.
“Come on, come to bed and I’ll make it all better.” Helena cooed into Bette’s ear, smoothing her head back from the exhausted woman’s forehead.

rofl @ funnyone … anyway … this story is excellent babe! Peggy is sarcastic as always, I’m intrigued, what are they doing with the people down below? where have catherine and dylan gone? and if they were taken, who took them? why is Bette watching ‘what the bleep’? (okay so I *know* the answer to that one) and why oh why does she fancy the woman from it … that’s not a good sign !!!! *wink*
This story is brilliant, especially because I just watched 28 Days Later for like the 500th time last night. So, they’re quarintining (sp?) the infected for what, to study them? See how long it takes for them to die? And how come Jaunty wasn’t quarintined too? Fucking rich people, they always have to do retarded stuff…anyways…good update…pps
My what a wonderful surprisse thought you bailed on us.
So good of you to throw we junkies a bone at long last. I think you’re a benevolent despot to your readers like Peggy is to her pool of infected. They seem to be immune, so there is light at the end of the tunnel. I suppose the rich won’t mind the origin if a cure/vaccination can be found.
You know, reflecting on that last comment, perhaps the sarcasm is a bit heavy. I don’t really think you’re a despot of any kind. However, if YOU reflect on it, the reason I’m a junkie is that I enjoy your writing so much.
Hiya, I normally don’t comment. Im a silent reader, lol. However this story is brilliant. I only started reading last week, but got up to date in like 3 days… and yeah a did kind of read some chapters at work… shhhhhI lover dawn of the dead and them movies, eventho i always get bad dreams somehow. I also got a bad dream after reading your story, which is a good thing, coz it means that your story affects me and interests me…. Don’t worry is nothing to do with your writting, but eberytime i see of one those movies i have a dream/night mare about it… lol. Anyway i love it and keep up the good work. Thanks for taking the time to entertain us talentless (in writing) folk… lol
On further reflection, how come everybody just barges into the bedroom? Don’t any of them know how to knock?
I missed this story! Thanks for taking the time to produce this installment under such challenging circumstances. No worries about the editing; if there was a drop-off in quality, I failed to detect it. I’ve been hugely entertained by this superbly written, multi-layered, and action-packed story from the get-go; it would make a mighty fine TV series. I’m also impressed by your refusal to confine your characters to an attitude of robotic stoicism, which seems to be typical of the genre. Bette’s outburst in this chapter was a perfectly human reaction to an intolerable situation. Finally, your warts-and-all portrayal of Peggy P rocks!
