parenting: the teenage years part 1 (sequel to the girl episode)
She ran past me like a tornado. Her red jacket being the wind that destroyed the flower arrangement sitting on the end table by the door. Shock being the only reason I didnt stop her right then and there. But not for her mother who followed behind her.
Evan! Evan! I could hear her scream.
I quickly grabbed Bette by the arm, stopping her from charging into Evans room.
Bette, Bette. Leave her.
What? Did you just see what she did? She needs to come out here and clean this up, Bette sternly voiced with raised eyes brows.
Ill get it. Just leave her alone right now. Please, I begged seeing the emotions play across her face.
Tina.
Its okay. Ill talk to her later.
Tina?
Please, Bette. Just… let me handle this.
Bettes eyes grew big and innocent as her eyebrows shot up not knowing what was happening.
Okay, she answered.
Good, good, she wasnt going to interfere, I thought as I grabbed the dustpan from the closet.
I scooped up the few pieces of glass from the broken vase, along with the broken stems and threw them the trash. I could feel Bette sitting at the kitchen staring at me wondering what was going on. I didnt glance her way or say anything as I walked past her and to the back, to Evans bedroom.
*****
I knocked on the door and waited for approval to enter. Nothing. I tried again and still nothing.
Evan, I said slowly opening the door.
The room was dark, shades drawn. I could make out her form laying on the bed. The room was silent except for the occasional sniffle. She was crying that much was evident but what made a girl who rarely sheds a tear sob so hard.
Evan, baby, whats wrong?
I crept closer unsure of how to approach her. I had a bad feeling that I was the reason for her pain.
Baby?
I stood next to her bed with my hand hovering above. I wanted to reach out to her.
Its all your fault!, she surprised me screaming.
Evan…
Its all your fault that she hates me! I did what you told me to and now she hates me!
Evan, baby, Im sorry.
No! I hate you! I hate you!
She sat up unexpectedly and threw a pillow nearly missing me.
Get out! Get out!she screamed at the top of her lungs.
I backed out of the room and into Bette.
What is going on?
I… I…
Tina?
I shut her bedroom door and almost ran into mine. I threw myself onto our bed and cried. She had never said those words to me before.
Tee, what happened? Bette asked sitting next to me rubbing my back.
I think I did something wrong.
What could you possibly have done, Tee?
Broke our daughters heart.

Sad, I hope they all work everything out!
Yikes….those dreaded words…I hate you! It seems no matter how much we want to protect our kids by giving them good advice (like Tina did) sometimes you have to just let them make their own mistakes! Great update!
So Evan got to 15 before she hates her mum – late developer is she! Time for Bette to show what a good parent she really is;-)
OUCH POOR TINA..TEENAGER ARE SUCH A PAIN IN THE ASS..GREAT CHAPTER PLEASE POST SOON
LOL…Weavers that’s pretty funny, “late developer”. Man, if I had thrown a pillow and yelled, I’d be picking up my teeth….a week from now. I hope they can work through this. Please Bette, be the voice of reason and calm for once.
