“I’ll see myself out,” she said leaving.
*****
I held a bag of pastry in my hand as I knocked on the door. I waited.
“Hi Serena,” Tina greeted.
“Good morning. I didn’t wake you, did I?”
“No, no. Come on in,” she said stepping back, “Bette and I were just having coffee.”
“Well I brought some pastries to share,” I said holding out the bag.
“If there’s an apple turnover in there, I’ll love you forever.”
I watched as Tina inspected the contents and found what she was looking for.
“I love you,” she smiled bringing the turnover to her lips.
“Not for long,” I muttered.
She waved her arm as a cue to follow her deeper into the house.
“Hey, babe, Serena brought breakfast.”
“Good morning, Bette.”
“It certainly is if you come bearing food,” she smiled.
“A bag of delights,” Tina announced sitting at the table.
I joined them.
“Coffee?” Bette asked.
“No. It’s better that I don’t have anything in my hands while I say this.”
“Is something wrong?” Bette asked.
Tina stopped in mid chew.
“I have to tell you something that you’re not going to be happy with.”
“What is it?” Tina asked worried.
I drew in a deep breathe and slowly let it out.
“From the beginning, there’s been this thing between… Evan and I.”
I looked at them both before continuing. Bette looked confused while Tina was panicked.
“Nothing,” I emphasized, “has happened. I wouldn’t allow it to. But it has gotten to the point of sneaking behind your back and neither of us wants to do that. In fact, it was Evan who wanted to tell you this, but I didn’t want the critique to be put wholly on her. After all, I am the adult here. I should bare full responsibility.”
“A thing?” Bette asked.
“An attraction,” I gulped.
“What are you? Some kind of pedophile?” Bette asked very controlled.
“Bette, don’t,” Tina interjected.
“Don’t what Tina? This adult woman is sitting at our table in our house telling us about her attraction towards our young daughter,” she shouted.
I pushed away from the table.
“Evan is eighteen, Bette. She can make her own decisions. We have taught her how to make good decisions.”
Was Tina defending me?
“What are you? 26? 27?” Bette asked.
“27,” I answered.
“You’re nine years older than her.”
“I won’t come at you with the typical I love her speech. I have more respect for you and Tina.”
“Obviously not enough to mack on our daughter,” Bette scoffed.
“Let her finish, Bette.”
Tina held Bette’s hand trying to calm and ground her.
“I do like your daughter. I tried to fight it, knowing that our age difference would be an huge obstacle for me but I can’t seem to win against Evan’s will. She wants so much for us to try to have a relationship. And no matter how many times I’ve said no… she keeps coming back. I don’t want to fight her anymore.”
“So you think because you came to us before anything happened that we would give you our blessing?”
“I was hoping,” I shrugged.
Bette pulled her hand from Tina’s grasp and narrowed her brown eyes at me.
“Get out,” she pointed at the door.
I didn’t hesitate walking to the door. As I turned back to apologize, I saw Evan standing behind the wall.

The reaction of Tina, Bette and the attitude of Serena is perfect with their characters. Good chapter.
wow..Serena did right that prove how much she care about Evan cuz face Bette like this is really have no fear to death..lol..now is time for Evan do soemthing and fight for what she think is right for them…and it seems Tina is more open to listen and help them..ok cant wait for more thanks :o)
Love rating gets to me ,at least tell them why. Bette is thinking of a 18 yr old and a 27 yr old Not love thanks Serene at least tryed to talk to them. Evan is really pushing Serena. thanks

No, this is a 5 without a doubt…obviously we still have some leftover resentment…Just don’t read it then!!!!!!! Anyway, great chapter, I thought that you dealt very well with the age/attraction thing!!! Bette, typical…tina, typical…..now let’s see where it ends up…There is so much attraction behind these 2 that something is going to give….great story, LOVE IT….*****

Well, at least there weren’t sharp objects around.
Serena was smart to anticipate that this wouldn’t go well. And even smarter to talk to Bette and Tina without Evan present, it would have been too easy to draw Evan in as a shield for Serena and a weapon for Bette.
I’m curious though…Tina was more calm that I suspected she would be – has she perhaps picked up on Evan’s attraction and just never brought it up hoping that it would eventually just fizzle out?
Tough topic and so well told.
Can’t wait to see how Evan reacts to her mothers. Bette has every right to be upset, she is only looking out for her daughter. I was suprised Tina was not as upset with this. Please post soon. Excellent story.

love this chapter. its great Serena confronted B&T and i think everything will be ok once Evan explains her feelings.
