”What were you doing to me in there?” Jodie had caught me in the hallway as everyone was filing out.
”What do you mean to you? I’m trying to chair a meeting about something you need to be accountable for, but I don’t sense you’re really grasping the concepts I’ve been trying to drive home to you.”
”Concepts, Bette? Really?”
”Reality, Jodie. Really the concept of Reality! Try to fucking grasp where the rest of us live. Try to cast your mind back to the time when we first met.” I press my hands beseechingly against my chest and implore her understanding. ”I needed that man’s donation. I needed his money and it’s my job to get his money to finance this department. And what did you do?” I notice my finger has raised itself and now menacingly pointing at her. ”You stuck a sculpture of George Bush’s mother with a vacuum’s vagina under my donor’s nose.” Then, I had felt one of my withering looks forming as I finished castigating her. ”For what? Artistic principles? Your principles? Really?”
Jodie’s face turns stormy. I don’t stop. ”And then, inconceivably you seem oblivious to the fucking political climate around guns in schools. Bottom line is this. You seem oblivious to the problems you’re causing this department, me professionally, and me personally. Is any of this registering, at all?” I had glared at her.
”You are losing your mind, Bette. Quit trying to control me.” Jodie had spat then walked away.
I had caught her arm and signed, and also said, as firmly as I could, ”Jodie, when you’re ready to listen I’ll be in my office.”
No sign of her.
And finally at 4 pm I’d told James I was off to the bookstore, our code for done for the day. Free from the annoyances of work and with no plans whatsoever to get together with Jodie tonight I’d called Tina from the car. And very oddly, because I really have a low opinion of the movie business, when I’d walked through the door of her office, a calming feeling had swept over me followed by a bathing sense of warmth. And that was all in the first minute.
Now, as she leans in to taste the ice cream I catch a scent of something hard to describe. Is it on her skin or in her hair? I watch as more strawberry ice cream disappears with her tongue. I pull on her straw and feel the delicious mocha taste flowing into my mouth.
My tongue freezes a little and aches. I swallow and look at her earrings, and then down her neck, and past her shirt collar. I remember how her skin tastes salty along her throat in the summertime, and how she always feels warm, when suddenly my lips crave her kiss.
And not the kind she’d give me to quickly say goodbye, but the kind that begins and sometimes takes hours to finish. I want one of those kisses. A rolling one with me and her matching desire because now it’s turning deeper between us.
The freeze of chilled mocha and my desire for her stings at the corners of my eyes. ”Something’s different about you. I can’t put my finger on it.” I finally say to break the spell on me.
”Not really.” She hands me back the ice cream.
”I don’t know, Tina, you’re kind of glowing or something. Are you having a secret love affair that none of our friends knows about?”
”And why would that matter? Aren’t you with someone?”
I bark a laugh at her nonsense. ”Oh, it would matter plenty, Tina. Absolutely everything about that would matter.”

Under Command here on Les Fan we have a wonderfully entertaining series called, ”WET WORK” and it envisions them in photo illustrated stories as sexy, amusing spies. We post those under @Command_LWord. Friend us here: www.facebook.com/lwordbehindthescenes/ . The next chapter is titled, The Cooking Lesson. Bette is anxious as Jodie’s return is fraught with tension, and Tina’s love charm has its effect.

Blackbird’s love charm is working! Can’t get enough of this story.
Perfection again! I really, really dislike Jodie Lerner. I could never see Bette w/her. I understand it was the artist thing that attracted Bette but really she has nothing on Tina. Discussions on art are highly overrated. Tina is a much more exciting, well rounded individual with wide interests. More, please. I now believe in fortune tellers and talismans.
Work that “charm” Tina!!! ;)
Oh please continue soon! I really love where this story is taking us.
More please. :))
Oh that charm is working so well. Little by little, it’s breaking down Bette’s facade of settling down with another person other than her true love. Her truths show themselves to her heart and she can’t ignore them. Helena is my hero in her part in assisting Bette in seeing her truth. Bette’s evolution is moving forward.
Another fine piece of work, my dear friend. I’m in awe once again!
Love where this is going the ice cream was a great bonus. More please. I am totally in.
I liked this scene between them in the end. I so much hope in a kiss, but you left us hanging, that’s not fair :P
but I see the charm work, and a bit l Iike a slow burn them!
After the debate between Bette and Jodie, I hope Bette see how shallow woman is Jodie really, and how self-centered, because she can not see the consequences of her actions. it’s time for their relationship to end, right? ;)
really liked the chapter!
Original French 75 recipe makes 1 cocktail (Tina’s had three!)
2 fluid ounces lemon juice
2 fluid ounces gin
2 teaspoons simple syrup
1 cup ice cubes
4 fluid ounces chilled Champagne
1 lemon or orange slice for garnish
1 maraschino cherry for garnish
Next, combine lemon juice, gin, and simple syrup in a Collins glass. Add ice cubes, fill with Champagne, and stir. It’s very pretty with a garnish slice of lemon or orange and a maraschino cherry. However, where I live they don’t tack a lot of fruit on the glass but do drop a nice fat cherry inside.
This drink was created in Paris, France around the time of the First World War. It was said to deliver a kick similar to the French 75mm field gun.
Ms. BB, I was intrigued by the name of that cocktail, so I googled it. It has a history going back quite a bit. Rachel Maddow should make on her Friday night show when she features cocktails. She’s quite the mixologist.
Liked it, as always! I’m so glad you’re sparing us Bette and Jodi scenes. I can’t bear them together. They just don’t fit with each other! It wouldn’t work, not even with a love charm.
I can see the Tina’s charm is working, thought! But I’m pretty sure it won’t be needed, since Bette already knows how deeply in love with Tina she still is.
Helena and Bette are hilarious, they hate and love each other! I think it would have been great if they wrote more scenes with them together, what a pity.
THANK YOU!
BB..bartender, bring us another round!…ahhh, our jealous Bette; the fortune teller working her magic…yes! Detail and scenery are remarkable…transporting the reader as if we are there w/ your characters. Self centered Jodie is pushing Bette away…I can live w/ that. Bette doesn’t need Jodie and her slobbering….keep her away!….ahhh, but Tina working that tongue on the ice cream….priceless. Thx for another fantastic post my fav writer…and that cocktail….shivermetimbers….hearty har, har…..Badabing!!!! awaiting your next post!!
I still hate Jodi. Thanks
I love a jealous Bette….know it is wrong, but so funny. Thanks for all you efforts, I really looking forward to reading this story.
Yes! Bette’s feeling the effect!….
I can stand Jodie.Amazing story,amazing drink.Thank you.
Blackbird…amazingly detailed story …love the pool story.. funny as hell. Helena stirred Bette up.. haha. and love the Tina and Bette sharing the ice cream and mocha.. my thought went further than that. lol anyway great story.. thanks for sharing friend!!!
Bette and Helena plotting together is so funny. Is the charm working? On whom? Tina or Bette? Bette needs to scare away Jodie with her Bowie and take Tina down the road of love. Keeping posting, please.
I actually think you are the Charmer with this story BB !
