”Good luck with that.” Helena laughs sardonically and shakes her head. Then, she shivers. ”Have you tried giving Jodie one of your withering looks.”

”You think that would have any affect?” I ask curiously.

”Actually, not really. In my experience when she goes tangentially off her grant’s specs, and gets called in on it,  Jodie has Tom to say some version of ’fuck you,’ as she packs her bags to leave.”

    Shaolin Studio – Tina’s office – Tina

”I’m sorry, Bette, just hold your thought for a minute.” I open my office door to search desperately for my missing secretary.

”Mickey? Has anybody seen, Mickey?” I ask a room of busy people. Everyone shakes their head, ’no’.

”Let’s just leave, Bette and take a walk out on the lot, so we can get away from this phone that won’t stop interrupting.” I pick up my purse and open the door for her.

”You need someone like James. He’d never leave me in such a fucking mess. What’s going on around here?”

”We’re making a lesbian movie that’s what’s going on.” As I lean over my secretary’s desk to write her a note, I feel my busy production office slow down and suddenly become still. I glance up as Bette smiles down at me completely unaware that dozens of people have stopped talking, texting, typing, walking and working to look at her. I finish my note and leave it on my missing secretary’s desk.

”When the studio fast tracked Les Girls all hell broke loose.” I clock my staff’s heads turn back to their work as Bette opens the door for me. ”By the way, you look really great in that suit.” I tell her.

”Like my little lavender handkerchief?” She flicks it and smiles at me.

”Of course. I gave it to you.”

”Yes, and it’s missing its white linen mate. Maybe you have it somewhere? Have you seen it in one of your purses, maybe?”

”I’ll look, Bette, I promise I will.” I reach inside my purse for my sunglasses and pretend to search for her.

We walk out into the daylight. I feel the bump of the Gypsy’s charm inside an inner pocket of my handbag.

”I have my own version of work Hell. A student of Jodie’s doing a performance piece freaked out everyone when he lifted a ”gun” to his head. The class apparently thought he was going to blow his brain’s out in front of them.”

    1. Perfection again! I really, really dislike Jodie Lerner. I could never see Bette w/her. I understand it was the artist thing that attracted Bette but really she has nothing on Tina. Discussions on art are highly overrated. Tina is a much more exciting, well rounded individual with wide interests. More, please. I now believe in fortune tellers and talismans.

    2. Oh that charm is working so well. Little by little, it’s breaking down Bette’s facade of settling down with another person other than her true love. Her truths show themselves to her heart and she can’t ignore them. Helena is my hero in her part in assisting Bette in seeing her truth. Bette’s evolution is moving forward.
Another fine piece of work, my dear friend. I’m in awe once again!

    3. I liked this scene between them in the end. I so much hope in a kiss, but you left us hanging, that’s not fair :P
but I see the charm work, and a bit l Iike a slow burn them!
After the debate between Bette and Jodie, I hope Bette see how shallow woman is Jodie really, and how self-centered, because she can not see the consequences of her actions. it’s time for their relationship to end, right? ;)
      really liked the chapter!

    4. Original French 75 recipe makes 1 cocktail (Tina’s had three!)

      2 fluid ounces lemon juice

      2 fluid ounces gin

      2 teaspoons simple syrup

      1 cup ice cubes

      4 fluid ounces chilled Champagne

1 lemon or orange slice for garnish

      1 maraschino cherry for garnish

Next, combine lemon juice, gin, and simple syrup in a Collins glass. Add ice cubes, fill with Champagne, and stir. It’s very pretty with a garnish slice of lemon or orange and a maraschino cherry. However, where I live they don’t tack a lot of fruit on the glass but do drop a nice fat cherry inside.

This drink was created in Paris, France around the time of the First World War. It was said to deliver a kick similar to the French 75mm field gun.

    5. Ms. BB, I was intrigued by the name of that cocktail, so I googled it. It has a history going back quite a bit. Rachel Maddow should make on her Friday night show when she features cocktails. She’s quite the mixologist.

    6. Liked it, as always! I’m so glad you’re sparing us Bette and Jodi scenes. I can’t bear them together. They just don’t fit with each other! It wouldn’t work, not even with a love charm.
I can see the Tina’s charm is working, thought! But I’m pretty sure it won’t be needed, since Bette already knows how deeply in love with Tina she still is.

Helena and Bette are hilarious, they hate and love each other! I think it would have been great if they wrote more scenes with them together, what a pity.

      THANK YOU!

    7. BB..bartender, bring us another round!…ahhh, our jealous Bette; the fortune teller working her magic…yes! Detail and scenery are remarkable…transporting the reader as if we are there w/ your characters. Self centered Jodie is pushing Bette away…I can live w/ that. Bette doesn’t need Jodie and her slobbering….keep her away!….ahhh, but Tina working that tongue on the ice cream….priceless. Thx for another fantastic post my fav writer…and that cocktail….shivermetimbers….hearty har, har…..Badabing!!!! awaiting your next post!!

    8. Blackbird…amazingly detailed story …love the pool story.. funny as hell. Helena stirred Bette up.. haha. and love the Tina and Bette sharing the ice cream and mocha.. my thought went further than that. lol anyway great story.. thanks for sharing friend!!!

    9. Bette and Helena plotting together is so funny. Is the charm working? On whom? Tina or Bette? Bette needs to scare away Jodie with her Bowie and take Tina down the road of love. Keeping posting, please.
