Not Just an Addiction – Chapter 6
“Oh, you know. Things have been a little rough since the wedding, but I’m doing better now,” Shane answered. “It helps to have good friends like Jenny and Alice.”
“Yeah, they’re great,” Lara agreed as she finished chopping and threw all the vegetables into a large bowl. She grabbed some oil from the cupboard and began making a dressing.
“I know you and Alice have gotten closer since Dana passed away,” Shane said, causing Lara’s heart to beat harder. She had no idea how to respond if Shane asked about her relationship with Alice, so she tried to keep her face as expressionless as possible.
“I was just wondering if you think she’s doing ok… you know, with Dana and everything.” Shane looked down sadly. “I just… I feel like I haven’t really been there for her lately, you know? With the wedding and everything else, I haven’t been the greatest friend.”
“Oh,” Lara replied, trying not to sound too relieved. “Um, yeah, I guess she’s doing ok. I mean, it’s hard and it takes time, but she’s strong.”
“Yeah, she is strong,” Shane agreed. “But I don’t think she’s ever gone through something like this. None of us have.” Lara nodded understandingly.
“Look,” Shane added, “I also wanted you to know that if you ever need to talk to someone about Dana or whatever, I’m here. I mean, I know that this offer is a little late in coming, what with you leaving for Paris and all, but I just thought you should know that.”
“Thanks, Shane,” Lara replied. She was genuinely grateful for the offer, but it made her feel even more guilty about withholding the real nature of her relationship with Alice.
“Ok, I think I’m done cleaning up here. Do you need any help with the salad?” Shane asked.
“No, I’m ok,” Lara answered. “You go ahead and join everyone outside. I’ll be out in a minute.” They exchanged a friendly smile before Shane sauntered back out to the patio. After Shane had left, Lara leaned on the counter and released a long pent-up sigh; then, she finished the salad and carried it back to the party outside.

Once again, awesome job. Nice pacing, good dialogue…all the trappings of a great fan fic chapter. But seriously, I can’t wait another few days like last time. Actually, I don’t even know how many days it was but it was long enough to make me crazy. You don’t want to be responsible for my nervous breakdown do you?
As always, a fantastic update…but you’re killing me with the tension;) Ah well, this way their (hopefully!) getting together will be that much more powerful, not to mention realistic, as yeah, sometimes it does take a while and/or the intervention of friends to admit that you belong with someone. Keep up the updates coming, this story just gets better and better!
By the way, I meant to say I really enjoyed the dream sequence. You do have a nice style!
Just read the first 6 parts in a row, and i’m absolutely loving it!!!Keep up the fantastic work. I eagerly anticipate the next chapter.
