Not Just an Addiction – Chapter 6

Alice stood alone in the middle of a field.  Looking around her, she saw nothing but grass and sky.  The greens and blues surrounding her seemed unnaturally vibrant; they hurt her eyes.  Squinting, she looked across the field in front of her, and saw another bright colour: the red reflection of Lara’s hair.  This time, the colour wasn’t painful; it was familiar.  Comforting.  Alice had an indescribable urge to draw the redhead closer to her.

Lara!  Alice called, but her voice was swept away by a sudden gust of wind.  Lara stared fixedly at Alice but didn’t move any closer to her.  An inescapable feeling of dread began creeping through Alice’s body as she realised that Lara was standing dangerously close to the edge of an enormous cliff.

Lara, wait!  Don’t move! Alice yelled frantically, running toward her.  Once again, her voice was stolen by the howling wind.  As Alice ran, she realised that even though Lara wasn’t moving, she somehow seemed to be inching perpetually farther away.  No matter how fast Alice ran, she couldn’t seem to reach the spot where Lara was standing.

Lara! Alice screamed, moving her legs with renewed energy, but still not getting any closer to the redhead.  Her heart beat furiously in her ears, and her breath came out in harsh gasps.  All she could think about was pulling Lara away from the edge of the precipice that yawned widely behind her.

Suddenly, Lara stretched one arm out toward Alice as a strong gust of wind pushed her backwards over the side of the cliff.

Alice watched in horror as Lara silently disappeared.

Alice awoke with a gasp, sitting straight up on the couch and looking around frantically.  Her heart was thumping wildly in her chest.  She rubbed her eyes, trying to drag her mind back to reality.

“Fuck,” she whispered, as the realisation that she’d been dreaming slowly dawned on her.

She looked at her unfamiliar surroundings, and quickly became conscious that she was in Lara’s living room.  The sun slanted in through the curtains, telling Alice that it was mid-morning.

Getting up from the couch, she suddenly became aware of the uninterrupted silence in the apartment.  She wandered to the hallway and noticed that Lara’s bedroom door was open.  Peeking around the corner, she saw that the bed was neatly made.

    1. Once again, awesome job. Nice pacing, good dialogue…all the trappings of a great fan fic chapter. But seriously, I can’t wait another few days like last time. Actually, I don’t even know how many days it was but it was long enough to make me crazy. You don’t want to be responsible for my nervous breakdown do you?

    2. As always, a fantastic update…but you’re killing me with the tension;) Ah well, this way their (hopefully!) getting together will be that much more powerful, not to mention realistic, as yeah, sometimes it does take a while and/or the intervention of friends to admit that you belong with someone. Keep up the updates coming, this story just gets better and better!

    3. Yikes! I am getting seriously addicted to your story. I realized that when I logged on and actually did a little dance when I saw your story was updated! As always, nice pace….but your killing me with all the tension! I am enjoying the longer posts–by the way….so hole yourself up and give us a 20 pager! (jk…I know real life _should_ come first)
