    Chapter 43

     

    Bette smiled at Peggy

     

    “Hello Peggy – fancy seeing you here – how are you ? How is Simon ?”

     

    “Wonderful darling – just wonderful “

     

    Peggy regarded Tina and smiled

     

    “Hello – I am Peggy Peabody – I have heard so much about you and your darling daughter “

     

    “Hello “ Tina shook Peggy’s hand as she looked her over – so this was the famous Peggy Peabody – one of Bette’s most loyal customers and friends and mother to the less than wonderful Helena. Helena was regarding Bette and Tina with not much attempt to hide her dislike of both women.

     

    “And how are you Helena ?” Tina asked politely

     

    “Better for not having an annoying girlfriend”

     

    Just as Bette and Tina started to react to the insult from Helena – Peggy held up her hand and regarded her daughter

     

    “HELENA – I will not tell you again about that sort of rudeness – I will not stand for you disregarding your

    education and displaying a lack of dignity which I simply will not allow in a child of mine. If you cannot be civil then please wait for me outside. I happen to want to speak to Bette and get to know Tina”

     

    “But “

     

    “No “ Peggy spoke firmer “In fact I am not going to risk you embarrassing me in front of Bette – please leave us alone “

     

    “MOTHER “

     

    Peggy gave Helena the sort of look that Tina wished she could replicate with Angie -it probably took years of practice. Peggy looked back at Bette and Tina

     

    “I do apologise for my daughter’s lack of class – I assure you that I dislike rudeness more than anything else. Now Bette “

     

    “Mother – thank you very much for showing me up “

     

    “You showed yourself up when you screwed a woman on a public flight, you showed yourself up when you fired Tina from the company and you showed yourself up by the disgraceful way you have tried to ruin her career. I have had enough Helena – I do not expect to see you again this evening. And if there are any feeble attempts on your part to take your anger out on either Bette or Tina you will find out just how vengeful I really can be “

    7. AllyE, thanks so much for another chapter this week, it was awesome. Now that Peggy knows what helena has been up to I hope she does something to restore that job that Tina had wanted in NYC. It was so good to read of Peggy’s dressing down of helena in public and sending her away from them. Peggy is my girl. Bette is so bad making Tina yell while she was on the phone, funny stuff. Fantastic chapter. Thanks again for posting.
