    My One Special One – Chapter 33 Part 1

    As Greg recalled that phone call, he couldn’t help but smile.  “Tina, Mom…Whew, we are a progressive family, aren’t we?  I can see us all on Oprah now….”

    * * *

    As expected, the next day arrived just like all the others and by the time she grabbed a snack and put her favorite jammies on, it was a comfortable time to call her mother – not so late that she couldn’t keep her on the phone to get all the juicy details.

    Ann answered on the first ring.  She saw by the caller id that it was Sharon.  This was her youngest and she braced herself .

    “All right, Mom.  Let’s have it.  Give me all the details.  Who is this guy?  What’shisnameWheredidyoumeethimHowoldistheguy…..Okay, I’m out of breath…spill it already.”

    Ann couldn’t help but laugh.  “Sharon, you’re out of breath because you don’t stop to breathe!  Look, I’ll answer all the questions but I need to tell you something very important first.  You may not understand this and I will accept that, but you need to know how very happy I am and this is my decision for my life.”

    “Jesus, Mom, is this some guy in the mob or…oh, no, don’t tell me he’s my age…”

    “Sharon!  No, he’s not a mobster – it’s not a boy toy either – It’s not a boy at all…It’s a woman.  I’m in love with a woman, Sharon.”

    Dead Silence.

    “Sharon…”

    “Just give me a minute, Mom.”

    Only about ten seconds ticked by, but to Ann it seemed an eternity before Sharon spoke again.

    “I don’t know what to say, Mom.  I really don’t.  This isn’t anything I expected at all.   You brought us up to respect everyone, no matter our differences, but I’m really taken back by this – I don’t know why it’s bothering me, but it is.”

    “Did you have the same feeling about Tina and her partner?”

    “Tina is my sister – you’re my mother.  That’s two entirely different scenarios.  You cannot compare the two.”

    Sharon didn’t know why it was happening but her eyes suddenly filled up and the tears spilled over.

    “I can’t talk right now, Mom….I’ve got to go….”
