“Yes, I was thoughtless. You took me by surprise. I never expected or suspected you had these feelings.”
“Neither did I, which just lends credence to the fact that our sexuality is not a choice. I fell in love, Mom, and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been in a relationship. Anyway, shouldn’t the important factor be that this is love we’re talking about? I’m an adult. I don’t need permission from anyone as to whom I love….” Tina could feel the tears welling up in her eyes.
Bette wanted to give Tina some privacy so she gestured to her that she was going to take a shower, but not before giving a quick kiss on the cheek and a whispered, “I love you madly.”
“I behaved badly, Christina. I just don’t want anyone to hurt my child – and you will always be my child. By being overprotective I was the one who inflicted the hurt. Please, honey, accept my apology. I couldn’t bear to be excluded from your life.”
“Mother, I accept your apology. I, too, don’t want to live my life without you in it…but you must understand that Bette is the other half of my life, my soul mate and the person I want to spend the rest of my days with. If you have any residual discomfort or displeasure with that, say it now and we’ll establish an uneasy peace, but a peace nonetheless.”
Mother and daughter knew this was a turning point in their relationship. Apologies made; apologies accepted. Family, in the true sense of the word, requires more than words spoken – there must be action and the most meaningful actions are support and respect.
“Does Bette love you, Christina?”
“Yes, she does.”
“Do you feel emptiness when she’s not with you?”
“Oh, Mom, you have no idea.” Tina wanted to blurt all her newfound happiness out. She really missed talking with her mother.
“Then never let her go. Love such as that comes but once in a lifetime, Christina. I have no discomfort or displeasure, only hope for you…for you and Bette. From the day I found out I was pregnant with you my wish was, and will forever remain, that my child never experience the pain of regret and missed chances. It sounds like my wish has been granted. You’ve been blessed by Fate and Destiny, my dear. My only advice is, do not disappoint them.”

Yes, Yes, Yes, when I read this at work this morning, I could not post a comment. Yes, her mother had fallen for a woman too in her younger years, and her name is Chris, (so is that where Tina gets her name) and that is why she freaked out when Tina told her about Bette. So happy they’ve made up.No please post soon and bring on the rest of the story. And please do not let anything happen to Tina. Catch the bad guys before they hurt our precious girl. Awesome chapter…I agree with Honda…I think it’s a woman…either it’s a woman or the person she was talking to is like Tina’s real father or something like that….but I am leaning towards it being a woman. Show no shame Ann…do the damn thing.
Uh-huh, guys! Chris is the secretary!… But I think, no I hope that indeed, that mysterious old friend is a woman… Would make things quite interesting. Could also be a man, but i don’t think he would be Tina’s real father as you said that she ended the affair cause her husband got her pregnant… Oooooh, so exciting! I wonder who Anne Kennard is in love with and let go all those years ago. Tina is so in love with Bette and working hard towards sharing their life together. Great chapter.

Hey Arcextl, Am loving this tale. It was wonderful to see Tina’s mom backtrack and admit the error of her ways and apologize to her daughter. Sweet love and a warm wack up call was perfect as Bette and Tina make an awesome couple and fall deeper and deeper in love and contentment with one another.
