My One Special One – Chapter 13

Tina finally gave up trying to sleep.  It was useless.  Tomorrow morning in court would be taken up with motions before opening statements.  It was a big ass drug case involving lots of money and a defendant who was very close to the hub of one of the largest drug rings in Philly. They really wanted to nail this guy.  She was prepared and so was Steve.  She would let him handle the motions and that would give her some more time to put a spit shine to her opening remarks.   There was a good chance they could stretch the motions to all day and that would be perfect.  That way they could start fresh Monday morning with opening remarks to the jury without the intervening weekend for them to forget what she had to say.

About twenty minutes after Bette left the lobby of Tina’s building a man walked in.  He quietly approached the fellow at the desk who had his face in sports magazine.

The man smacked the front of the magazine and very quickly got the desk clerks’ attention.

“Hey, what’s up?  Whadya’ doin’ coming hereJesus, if anyone sees us”

“Shut the fuck up.  I’ve got something a little special for you at a very good price”

The desk clerk started to salivate.  This guy had some of the best shit around but he couldn’t always afford it.

    “Tomorrow’s payday.  I don’t have it tonight.”

“Oh, you have it, all right.”  The man looked over the desk and nodded toward the sign in book.

“What? You want that?  I can’t let you take that.”

“Jesus, you’ve got shit for brains.  I don’t want to take anything.  Tonight is your lucky night.  You let me look at that book and you get a present without having to wait for payday.  Sound good?”

“Hell yeah.  Look all you want.”  He lifted the book and placed it on the counter before the man, who then went down the list of names until coming to the one he was looking for.

“Bingo.” He muttered.  He reached inside his jacket, pulled out a packet, placed it in his hand, made a fist, then flipped his hand palm side down on the book.  As he slid his hand from the pages, his other hand closed the book.

The desk clerk watched every move he made.  The man handed the book back to him, turned on his heels and left without saying another word.

Two more hours to go and then one lucky desk clerk would hop aboard his own private spaceship traveling to the vast empty space inside his mind.

Friday evening came faster than she expected.  Bette was in the shop.  Foot traffic was starting to pick up with the Friday-nighters on South Street.  Normally she would be happy for that but tonight she was anxious.

Bette glanced at her watch.  6:40. She walked to the door and turned the sign to Closed and then went to her office, sat down, put her cell phone on the desk in front of her – and waited.

Court had gone as she expected.  Motions and then conferences with the judge lasted the day.  Opening remarks were put off until Monday.

Now she sat in her living room.  6:45. Tina put her cell phone on the coffee table in front of her.  Her eyes went from the clock on the wall to the phone and then back again.

Choices. Why?  Why now?  Why does it have to be this?

Life doesn’t have to answer those questions, Tina.  Openly, without fear, accept the gift package containing all your hopes and dreamsor keep it wrapped up and put it safely to the back of the closet for another time, another place.  You pick. Either way Life will continue on.

The clock struck 7.  Two pairs of eyes in separate locations were staring at their cell phones.

Tina picked up her phone and with shaky hand punched in Bette’s number.

    1. Arceextl, what you said about the S.S. TiBette is so true. S.O.S., Ilene! Thanks for the TiBette love in your story. Please continue and post soon. Oh, and I hope Bette opens a can of whoop ass on whomever is after Tina.

    2. Arceextl,I am right beside you in dreamland. This fantasy is so much more gratifying than the depression that Season 3 brings. How can you dismiss nearly 9 years of your life with someone as if it was an old pair of socks ready for the goodwill bag? I adore this story and am now very intrigued to read what will happen next? Who exactly is this new character? Is Tina in danger given her high profile job that necessiates putting bad people in prison? Please continue soon as I am on the edge of my seat and ready to fall off. Your Loyal Fan.PS most appreciative to have this haven to escape into.

    3. this chapter made me shaky…i’m sort of hoping for the right decision from tina, but i’m scared for that guy, i think he’s after tina because she’s on this drug case…i hope she won’t get hurt, or get amnesia, or get cancer or get killed or get kidnapped or say no to bette or any other crap that keeps happening to our beloved B&T in many other stories…keep them alive and together, please

    4. Love the story. Don’t let the bad guy get Tina. Please let her tell Bette that she loves her and is willing to fade the heat of her mother. Thanks for the post. RC, that poem is beautiful. You have written some beautiful words in all your works that you have shown us within your stories. They’re so beautiful they hurt. Thanks for the post. Post again soon please.

    5. OMG….what a cliffy!!!!! You can’t let us wait long for Tinas answer PLEASE :o))….I don’t like that guy, he is definitely bad news, but Bette will be there too save Tina, I know it!!! LOL

    6. RC..great update. Looks like the drug dealer’s case is going to get up close and personal with Tina and Bette. Somehow, the guy is going to use information from the check-in book (BPorter) to get to Tina. Bette did the right thing in being there for Tina and then leaving. Tina needs to make this decision without feeling obligated to Bette being there. RC..that was really get dialogue between B & T. Thanks for the update, please continue.
