theyre putting her in the police car nowwell keep you updated. Again, Ms. Porter is in serious but stable condition
Shane managed to call Alice, who was already in a panic having heard the news at work. Shane told her to call Kit right away, call Dana and Jenny. If they were able, to meet Shane and Tina at the hospital. They would be there in minutes – or seconds the way Shane was driving.
The Emergency Room was packed with reporters, TV cameras and police. Shane pushed through the crowd and headed for what appeared to be a detective in charge.
Please, this is Tina Kennard, Bette Porters partner. The rest of her family will be here shortly.. Just then Alice, Kit, Dana and Jenny came pushing through the crowd of people. All had panicked looks on their faces. Here is the rest of Bettes family. If no one else, Tina has got to be let in to see her.
You all are going to have to go to the waiting roomall right, they have a separate room for you to wait. Apparently, Ms. Porter is up in surgery. Come on, lets get you all into this room away from all these people. Ill tell the people on staff where you are.
The detective took them all to an empty examining room. Now, Id like to ask you all some questions.
Listen, I dont know that were going to be able to answer anything right now. Could you at least wait until we find out how Bette is doing?
All right, fair enough. Ill be back in a short bit. The detective left the room. As soon as he opened the door to leave you could still hear all the commotion with TV crews and reporters.
The girls were all in shockthey were trying to comfort Tina and Kit, but it was difficult.
Tina, baby girl, shes going to be okay, hear? She has to. Thats all there is to it, Kit said, voice laden with sorrow.
Just then the door opened quickly and a medical person came charging in. My name is Dr. Jenson. The detectives told me you all were in here. Tina looked up at the doctor, just staring, waiting for words, any words.
