Love Lost, Love Gained – Part 14!

Few Days later

“Hey Alice”
“Shane?”
“Yeah it’s me, sorry to ring so early”
“Sorry I was miles away, got an article to write” Alice stared at the computer screen. Her boss was laying on the work and she had two articles to write. “What’s up?”
“nothing much, I know we spoke the other day and I told you everything that happened between Carmen and I.”
“Shane where is this going? I don’t mean to be rude but this article is a killer”.
Shane frowned, this was the difference now, before Alice would have dropped anything to talk to her now, well now it was like stepping on eggshells.
“I was just ringing to see how Shay is doing?”
“Oh he is fine, been really good. His arm is fine, complains of pain now and then but the doctor gave him some antibiotics and painkillers”.
“Thanks alice for looking after him.”
Alice frowned “Are you okay?”
“Yeah I’m good. Just waiting”
“Waiting for?”
“Carmen. She left a message with the hotel reception desk for me to meet her at 11”
“That’s good”
Shane smiled into the phone “Alice when I get back, can we talk?”
Alice closed her eyes briefly, she had an idea why Shane wanted to talk “What about?”
“Just let’s talk okay?”
“Yeah that’s fine. So do you still need me to pick you up from the airport”
“Please”
“No problem I’ll see you Friday at LAX. What time?”
“I get in at 2pm.”
“Cool, see you then” Alice hung up the phone before Shane could say goodbye.

Shane shook her head, something was definitely off. Maybe it was just the work load or maybe what Carmen said was true.
“Hi Shane”
Shane looked up to see Carmen walking towards her. “Hey”
“How are you?”
“I’m okay thanks. You?”
“Good”
“You fancy going to the café around the corner?”
Shane shrugged “Lead the way”

They both walked in silence.
“Here we are”
Shane looked up “Nice”
“Yeah it’s like the Planet.”
They walked to the counter and ordered their drinks.
“So, how have you been?”
Shane sipped her drink “Okay thanks. I’ve done a few touristy things. Visited the Statue of Liberty; Empire State building. I’ve um got tickets to this concert tonight if you fancy going?”
“Who is playing?”
“Some British bands, I read in the newspaper that they are meant to be quite good, just thought, you know if you don’t have anything planned you might like to go.”
“No, I have nothing planned. That’d be nice”
Shane smiled softly. Silence engulfed them both again.
