Love in the South – Chapter 3

Tina sat in silence looking at Bette with hurtful tears in her eyes, ‘How could she sit there and say all those things without shedding a tear?  Could her feelings for me be over?’  Tina took all that Bette was telling her to heart.  "Bette, I never realized until earlier today when I was talking to Kit how much I have let our differences stand in the way of our children.  I overheard Angie talking to Kit about your letters and realized that I was wrong for not letting that little girl see her momma.  I was wrong for not telling you about Mark.  You know, even though he didn’t know you personally, he loved you very much and was very hurt because he didn’t get any letters from momma like Angie did.  Bette, I’m sorry I kept them from you," Tina cried.

Bette pulled into her driveway, turned the car off, wiped a tear from Tina’s cheek, and said, "Come on.  Let’s go inside."

Tina got out of Bette’s car and looked the house up and down.  There was something very familiar about this house, but she couldn’t put her finger on what it was.  When she went inside, she saw Porter’s charm all over.  Artwork was everywhere.  Not just famous artwork, but Casey, Chris, & Michael’s as well, but what really caught her attention were all the pictures, family pictures, that decorated the living room.  "Bette, where did you get this picture?" she asked of the picture in the center of the mantle.

"Which one?" Bette asked from another room.

"The one of all of us," Tina replied.

"Oh, I got the one of you, Mark, and Angie from Angie.  I had it placed with the one of Casey, Chris, Michael, and me like a family portrait.  I have more, but we really need to get back to the kids.  I have everything they’ll need for two days, that is, if that’s all right with you?" Bette asked.

"Oh yeah!  That would be fantastic!"  Tina responded with that Kennard smile that melted Bette’s heart so many years ago.

    Back at Tina’s house…

As Bette and Tina drove off, the kids finished cleaning up from the earlier events of the day.  Afterwards, the boys went outside to play.  Angelica plops down on the couch, "Casey, how come you never told me about momma?"

    1. I knew you would stop it before the video played. That’s okay. Happy that Kit is surprising them with Shane and Alice. Oh, is Dana in heaven in your story? If not where is she? Love this story. Can hardly wait for more.

    2. This is so cute. I can appreciate Bette being apprehensive, I mean 15 years and she STILL couldn’t see Angelica, now all of a sudden Tina wants to be the Brady Bunch. Take it slow Bette. Love this story!
