    Love and Basketball Chapter 35

    Chapter 35:

    3 weeks later:

The Angels have a near perfect record.  They have one loss on the season and Tina is experiencing first hand how upset Bette can get after losing a game.  She did exactly what she was supposed to do.  Bette scored 30 points and had 11 rebounds (8 offensively) and 5 assists but they lost by 4.  Tina did ok.  Teams are starting to double her at crucial points in the game because she has been scoring at will in earlier games.  She hasn’t quite figured out how to deal with the double team and had to burn two time outs late in the game.  As she gets more games under her belt she will be fine.  Tina’s stat line was solid with 13 points, 3 steals and 4 assists.

Bette is so upset she sneaks out of the locker room without showering.  She is approaching her car when her phone vibrates.  She sees it’s Tina and she answers the call.

    “Hello.”

“So you thought you would just leave without saying anything?”

“T, just give me a few minutes please.  I hate fucking losing games.  Especially when we’re supposed to win.”

“What does that mean?  Are you trying to say something about my play today because I still had a solid game.”

“T!”  Bette said raising her voice slightly.

“Don’t yell at me Bette!”  Tina said wondering how the hell this conversation spiraled so fast.

“T I’m sorry.  Babe I’m a sore loser because it doesn’t happen often.  I just need some time to cool down.  I am not mad at you.  I apologize for sneaking out but I was actually just going to sit in my car and wait for you to come out so I could take you home.”

    Tina sighed in relief.  “Really?”

“Yes babe.  Now please go shower and bring your sweet smelling sexy self out here when you’re done.”

“Ok B.  I’m sorry that I got so defensive.  I guess I feel I should have played a little better.”

“T, we’re competitors and as much as we love to win, we hate to lose even more.  So you never have to explain to me about feeling bad after a lose.  I understand. Ok?”

    “I love you so much.”

    1. Great update (as usual)! So I love the movie Love & Basketball too but it takes a serious toll on me emotionally. There are so many highs & lows in the movie… If you’re trying prepare us readers for what’s to come I better get my tissues ready. So Helena has put her newest plan in place. I’m intrigued by the idea of a costume party and can envision all he mayhem when alcohol and mask are involved. PPS’

    2. I will definitely keep reading because I think it’s hilarious how Bette finds all these little excuses as to why she shouldn’t be with Tina. It’s funny because Bette can definitely get em, but she can’t hold on to them. I do feel bad for Tina but she’s young as well so getting over it should not be too difficult. Come on Carmen, Bette is starting to get bored. It’s your turn. Thanks for the post.
