    Love and Basketball Chapter 14

    Previously:

“Well I’ve liked you since I first laid eyes on you if you wanna know the truth.”

“No bullshit?” Tina asked.  She can’t believe Bette is admitting her feelings so candidly and over the phone!

“No bullshit.” Bette replied.  “Tina would you like to meet up and do something today?”

    “Absolutely.”

Bette is brushing her teeth after speaking with Tina when she notices a huge hickey on her neck near her collarbone.

‘Damn Vanessa.  How am I going to hide this?’

Bette comes down to the kitchen for some toast and coffee when she sees her parents enjoying a hearty breakfast.

“Good morning sweetheart.” Marilyn says to her only child.

Melvin looks up at his baby girl who is looking more like her mother everyday.

    “Good morning sweetheart.”

    “Good morning mom and daddy.”

“Good morning Pookie.” Melvin replied.  He knows this particular term of endearment embarrasses his daughter.

“Daddy, I’m almost a full grown woman.  You can not keep calling me that.”  Bette smiled as she kissed both her parents.  She secretly loved when her dad called her by the childhood nickname.

“Oh just stop it Bette.  You are and always will be a daddy’s girl.  So just get used to it baby.” Marilyn said.

“Sweetie sit down and have some breakfast.  You must be starving.”

“Bette did I ear your friend leaving at the crack of dawn Bette?” Marilyn asked her daughter.

Bette felt a lecture coming so she just braced herself.

“Yes mom.  Vanessa had to get ready for work this morning.” Bette replied remembering her activities of the last several hours.

“Bette, I’ve always taught you to respect woman right?”

“Of course daddy and I do, very much.”

“Sweetie, we have always given you room to grow and make your own decisions because you have always been so responsible.  Are these young ladies becoming a distraction?”

“Sweetie what your father is trying to say is maybe its time to take a break with all the girls and concentrate on school and basketball.  Have you made a decision about college yet?”

“Mom I know that I am going to a great school next year.  I’ve narrowed to two choices and I don’t think the girls are a stopping me from deciding.  If anything they help take the pressure off.  Believe me mom and dad, I know how important this decision is.”

    1. I can understand Tina’s fears. If Bette liked her, why’s she still sleeping around with practically any one that will give her the time of day? That hickey’s not even a day old. Tina is right to have questions and be cautious. I’d nearly be asking Bette to be getting a blood test for STDs if I were Tina. Respect is all very well and fine, but never being able to turn down a pretty face is a bit… I dunno. I hope Bette changes. She’s got a ways to go to get Tina’s trust. This is a really interesting story. Thanks for the post. :)

    2. Well it’s about time Bette told Tina that she wants to be with her. Bette also should tell Tina everything helena said so there isn’t any problems in the future between them. Great update. Thanks.
