    Love and Affection Chapter 22

    Love and Affection Chapter 22

“Bette, hurry up!  Christ, what the fuck are you doing in there?”  Shane was increasingly becoming more inpatient waiting for Bette to get off the phone with her parents.  She could see Bette pacing back and forth with her phone attached her head.  “Bette!  I have only an hour today!”  Bette waved her one finger signaling that she was almost finished.  Shane loved Bette, they had that bound that they were both orphans and always felt a little out synch with society and parental support.  Even though Bette loved her adopted parents, Bette had underlining issues of her parents really being there for her and understanding where she came from.

“Sorry Shane, jesus, my mom was rambling about this and that”  Bette throwing her arms around explaining her exasperation from her conversation with her mother.  “ I just don’t get why she won’t just leave that whole, ‘Honey, I just don’t think of you bi-racial.  You are my baby.’  The thing is, I know who I am and they, well mom always makes it seem like I am all white.”  Bette looked confused and hurt.  She has been so confused as to who she was labeled as a child and still to this day she couldn’t really identify with being half black.  Her adopted sister Kit was all black and well an alcoholic.  Their family tried and still supports Kit, she just can’t stay sober.  Bette didn’t let this get in her way in her life for her goals in life, but it was definitely something that bugged her.

“Bette, let it go.  It’s hard for your parents.  I mean they don’t know any better.  Not that it’s right or wrong.  Life was different for them.  And well may be they protected you by treating as someone that could fit in.”  Shane putting arm around Bette.  “It could be worse my friend..cheer up.  Lets eat.”  Shane and Bette always were able to talk in ease of their issues of being a misfit.  They walked to a sushi restaurant that was quick and good.  They ran into Alice and Papi and a new friend of theirs Jodi.

“Hey guys, long time no see!”  Alice jumped to greet Bette and Shane.

    1. Okay, was today a bad day epidemic? Actually my day was not bad. Bette and Tina getting married and Tina wanting Bette to carry their first child by using her brother as the donor, very interesting.

    2. hmm wonder what Bette’s response will be. I think this interpretation of Bette will be more than happy to carry a baby but what is her reaction to Tina’ brother being the donor.
