Long Way Home 4 (TLW/BG x-over)
And then casually walk by a second time.
“Is there something you want?” The woman asked, sounding mildly perturbed, as Alice rolled by for the third time.
“I couldn’t help but notice that you’re reading.”
“Yeah? And?”
“Well,” Alice sent her mind into overdrive, only to find that she had a few cylinders misfiring. “I like books.”
“Uh, that’s great love.” The woman now sounded more confused than irritated. “But if you don’t mind, I’d rather be alone.”
“Ok, sorry. But if you don’t mind me saying, you’re not from around here, are you. More like Australia, or something, right?”
“England,” the woman responded, keeping her word short.
“Oh, yeah, sorry. You know my friend, Helena, who’s sitting over there is from England, also.”
“Yeah. There’s a lot of people from…” The woman turned towards Alice’s table, spotting Helena despite her victim’s intent of hiding behind a newspaper. “Oh bloody… That’s Helena ‘with two L’s’ Peabody, isn’t it.”
Alice brightened. “You do know her.”
“I do, love. And now that you’ve ruined my appetite, could you please just run along?”
“Uh, ok. It was nice sort-of-but-not meeting you,” Alice fumbled through all the words, “I guess,” she mumbled as she scurried back to her table.
Helena peered from behind the newspaper as Alice took her seat. “And?”
“She knows you,” Alice conveyed, her voice cheerful. But then her smile dropped a peg. “But I don’t think she likes you.”
“I’m sure.”
They watched as the woman flagged down a server. A few minutes later, the server returned with an order packed for carryout. The woman settled her bill and left quickly, not giving Alice or Helena another glance.
“She really doesn’t like you,” Alice commented.
“I’m really sure,” Helena agreed. “But what the hell is she doing here?”

Angelica was playing on the floor when I arrived. At first I thought it was Tina’s method of delay, but then I saw that the bags were all packed up and ready, I could breathe a little easier.
Tina held on to the door, her gaze back on our daughter more than on me. “Hey, I was expecting Angus.”

Uh, yeah, sure, right. Forget about what? Now why would anybody want to deal with what they really feel? Too bad Bette has such liimited choices.
Continue of course. Fanfic is going have to soothe our fractured TiBetter hearts until S5.
I agree with azmama…..we depend on you authors to keep our TiBette alive!Good story, more anytime!!
Yes, Please keep this going. I do hope at some point Tina and Bette will sit down and talk. Thanks PPS
Yes! Please keep going. Very interesting story.
angelica is the cutest.
That’s right, forget the awkwardness, ignore it, don’t deal with it. Push it to the back and let it grow and mutate instead. Hopefully, what results isn’t the shambling monstrosity of mutual alienation that it could so easily become. On another note, what did Helena do, prior to her lobotomy, to make Mlle. Jailbird Anglaise despise her so? I’m intrigued, so of course you’ll have to continue, pseud. Thanks for the update.
Continue? …Yes, please I’ll have another. And thank you, too!
Owwweeee, there is so much underlining tension between those two. I know that Bette wants Tina and I would bet my life that Tina wants Bette back. They just have to figure out how to get back onto the same road and going in the same direction. Thank goodness for Alice.
this is just getting better and better. i have a couple of ouchies myself. ;) thanks.
This is getting interesting! Thanks.
