    It was even more of a relief when all the little guests and their parents went home and Bette went and got beers for their friends . When she had filled the dishwasher and collected the beers Bette stood and looked at the scene in front of her. Shane and Lara had tidied the room and everyone was lounging around.

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

    Dan was sitting on Helena’s knees desperately trying to stay awake – a battle he looked likely to lose. Especially as Helena was singing softly to him – the trick that always worked.

     

     

     

    Jennifer was asleep in Shane’s arms and Kate was asleep being held by her number one God mother Alice. Alice was also struggling to stay awake as she lay against Lara’s body.

     

     

     

     

     

     

    Tina was watching her whole family with pride – she knew that a hard year would have been impossible without the love and support of her four best friends. Bette handed out the beers and joined Tina on the floor – Tina lent against her wife , resting her hand against Bette’s thigh.

     

     

     

     

     

     

    “We both just want to thank all four of you for all the amazing things that you have done for us and the kids in the last 18 months “

    “I can honestly say that from my point of view it has been a total pleasure. I was very jaded about love and relationships when I split from Winnie. I made a mess of marriage and being a mother because I was selfish and vile. I can honestly say that seeing you two getting together again and watching your family grow has made me a nicer person “ Helena kissed Dan “ and I still have the magic touch getting him asleep “

    16. When Dan came in and said Alice peed on the floor, I thought that he was talking about the human Alice. But then I remembered that he wanted to name the puppy Alice. Loved the kittens part being a cat person. Sweet and hopeful. Sorry to see this end but it was a blast while it lasted.

    45. I can hardly blame the puppy given the prospect of being named after Alice. Well, Ally, all’s well that ends well. Really sweet and of course we all wish we could create such a loving family for ourselves (children optional, personally I’d rather have the dog. As the newly late, great Anita O’Day used to sing “Thank you, thank you, thanks for the boogie ride”.
