    Lifeline – Bette and Tina

    Chapter Two

That morning Bette had awoken with a terrible crick in her neck.  In fact, her back was killing her too.  The moment she sat up she knew she had wrenched her body the day before hanging the new show.  How many times in the past had Tina implored her to stay on the floor and let her employees do the heavy lifting while she directed their progress?

“I know you’ve got a strong back, Bette, but you have an even harder head,” she had said with exasperation.  “You’re the brains.  Can’t you let somebody else be the brawn?”

Bette hoped she could get herself off the bed and into a standing position without waking Tina, and quickly realized that that was going to be difficult, if not impossible.  Instead of trying to stand, she slipped to the floor, turning over onto all fours in order to crawl to the bathroom where she hoped to run a hot shower to relieve her agony.  It was an ambitious plan.  Her position on hands and knees turned out to be excruciating and it took all her forbearance to keep from screaming out in pain.  ‘Shit!’ she yelled inside her head.

Meanwhile, Tina had rolled over and discovered her gone, and hearing a scuffling on the floor, edged forward on the bed to determine the source of the sound.  She was surprised and amused to find Bette in her ‘doggy’ stance, aimed toward the bathroom.

“Lose a contact, baby?” she asked in that sexy morning voice that was always so husky when she woke up, her slight southern accent at its most sultry.  Bette usually found it fetching; irresistible even.  Today it stopped her in her tracks.  Tina knew perfectly well that she didn’t wear contacts. Twisting her aching neck around slowly, she glanced at the smirking blond whose shoulder-length hair was tantalizingly disheveled, her face flushed with sleep, beautiful hazel eyes filled with mischief.  If she hadn’t been a hobbled invalid Bette might have taken her to task then and there, as she had a particular weakness for Tina’s sensual morning persona.

Bright yellow sunlight streaked across the bed falling on the soft skin of her lover’s shoulders and breasts, and Bette craned her stiffened neck fervently wishing she were not a mere two and a half feet high so she could gaze upon the lower regions of Tina’s nakedness where the sunlight undoubtedly dappled other interesting aspects of her lovely form.  Tina, propped on one elbow with a look of amusement said,
