Life As We Know It – #402 – The L Word S4

            Four months later…..

            “Is it cold there?” asked Alice, spinning around on the stool in the far corner of café section of The Planet.  She felt like a kid every time she heard Lara’s voice, and every time they hung up with each other, she felt empty again.  It certainly wasn’t the same empty that she’d felt with Dana, but it was a void that was undeniable. 

            “Not all that cold, well, chilly,” answered Lara.  Surveying the scene before her.  The kitchen was in total chaos, or at least, organized chaos.  That was the nature of the beast called running your own kitchen.  Harold was stomping around the kitchen, snapping fingers, giving soft orders, rubbing his short cropped hair, then his stubbly chin, looking almost as tired as Lara herself. 

            “So, when are you coming to visit?  I miss you, this whole phone sex thing, well, is starting to suck.  I think we’re going to have to start looking for a few more… toys,” countered Alice.  Kit serving her a cup of coffee.  Alice smiled.

            “Hey, Lara girl, we miss you around here,” Kit yelled into the phone.  Kit walked away, rubbing her stomach, tossing a wink to Angus, who was nearby, watching, smiling at his glowing girlfriend.

            “Tell her I miss her too,” countered Lara.  “How about I call you a little later, things are shaping up to explode here.”

            “Miss you,” Alice said into the phone longingly.

            “Me too, Alice, me too,” answered Lara.  She hung up the phone and hurried to help Harold. 

            “Was that your woman on the phone?” asked Harold when Lara appeared at his side.  His blue eyes blood shot, much like Lara’s were.

            “It was,” said Lara.  “She was wondering when I was going to get some time off, so that phone sex isn’t our only means of release.”

            “Oh, did you HAVE to tell me that?” asked Harold.  He shuffled some papers, scraps of menu ideas, recipes, the what should be the final print of the menu was lost in the pile also.  A hot sigh played on his lips.  “You realize in two days we open, that in two days, things are going to get insane?  You can’t just up and leave…”
