    Leap of Faith (Chapter 8)

As such affairs go, the Think Pink Gala dinner was anything but run-of-the mill. Melissa Etheridge and Sheryl Crow treated the crowd to an unannounced acoustic concert, featuring Sheryl on piano and Melissa on guitar. They covered several of their own hits and then sang the songs they loved. Melissa threw down on Janis Joplin while Sheryl transformed classic Carole King into the blues. They pulled Kit on stage for the finale and the three brought the house down with a medley of Kit’s greatest hits.

“How cool was that?” Shane leaned into Beth during the standing ovation. “Did you know about this?”

“No she didn’t,” Dana answered. “They came up with the idea on Thursday morning. We’ve been scrambling ever since. You wouldn’t believe how many technicians and how much equipment it takes to pull this off. They couldn’t even do a real sound check.”

“I’ll bet Chef was none too pleased,” Lara said as she drained her third mojito.

“As a matter of fact, Wolfgang was quite understanding,” responded Alice, reaching for Dana’s hand. “He said that he could easily adjust and that he would do anything for the cause.”

They were interrupted by Billie Jean King and Pam Shriver, who made some short welcoming remarks before introducing Think Pink’s Honorary Celebrity Chair, one Beth Kenyon.

“Alice can be a little defensive,” an equally tipsy Jenny whispered loudly. “Don’t take it personally.”

Dana squeezed Al’s hand tightly, fully expecting her to take Jenny down a peg. Al squeezed back, assuring her wife that she wasn’t taking the bait. From the stage, Beth quickly acknowledged the event’s major sponsors and dinner was served. After a few quick bites, Alice, Dana and Beth excused themselves and began the rounds, covering each of the 110 tables while the first three courses were served. In three short years, attendance at the Think Pink Gala had more than doubled.

Wolfgang Puck outdid himself, going so far as to pair the entrée with a rosé wine. The piece de resistance however was dessert: a cherry infused chocolate mousse, paired with pink champagne. Lara slowed down a bit, in deference to Chef Puck, and the food began to absorb some of the alcohol. To Helena’s relief, she tried, with some success, to temper her sullen mood.

    1. yikes! That cliffhanger was scary. I wonder what you have in store for Danish. Should I be worried?I hope your appointment is going to be ok. I’m fine so far. Not much happening to be honest. Same old same old. :)

    2. Thank you for your shoutout. James is only a puppy and it will take time and lots of patience to train him. I am glad that he is adding joy to your life. Thank you for the warning. I hope it would have nothing to do with the baby. I know you will take good care of them ultimately. This chapter, as usual, was filled with plenty of actions. I am always amazed by how well you write. Glad to see the gala was successful and went without any problems and the gang was all there to support them. That was really sweet that D got the bracelet for A. Hope they would rest well in the next few days. lol when Shane stopped Jenny from further embarrassing herself. I am so glad that Shane opened up to Beth and maybe finally, Shane could get more grounded with Beth’s TLC. SammysGirl, excellent post and thank you very much.

    3. I’m rocking my version of the HDD. Woot-woot!! I am glad to hear we will see regular posts from you. Don’t feel bad if you miss any target dates. We will wait patiently. On to the comments… ThinkPink went much better — even with Lara and Jenny acting up. Jenny needs to globetrot off to somewhere else. What a pain in the ass. The confrontation between Bette, Tina and Ava doesn’t bode well for the future. The bracelet thing was so cute and a nice touch. Dana was sweet to make sure Alice got proper credit for all her hard work. They really are true partners. Lara and Helena seem like such a good pair. I hope they can get past all the obstacles (real and imagined) that are between them right now. I absolutely love how you handled Shane and Beth in this chapter. I love seeing some growth in Shane. That is another couple that seems like a great fit — as odd as they may seem from the outside. As always, the NC-17 was excellent — especially the Danish at the end. Hot. Let me add my concern at the cliffhanger. The good thing is that you have built an amazingly strong Danish — I think they can get through just about anything. Thanks so much, SG, for another outstanding chapter!!

    4. Well, I can say with certainty that your cliffhanger is the most worrying I’ve read thus far in my fanfic obsession. Poor Danish. As to the central idea behind the story, I fully agree that we all try to make the best choices we can, to the best of our ability. I also think that some of the negative repercussions that everyone experiences help us to grow and learn. i do think life is just a constant attempt to better ourselves, or at least it should be. It shines through beautifully in your story if you had any doubt of that. I’m babbling, but as always, this is fantastic. All the storylines have me hooked, and I’m anxious to see what happens in the future. Take your time though, this story is definitely worth the wait.

    5. wow… that cliffhanger has me so worried. This is the first time i have commented on any of your posts and I just wanted to say that I have truly enjoyed reading your creation. It is 10 times better than the show. -A
