Labyrinth of Emotions – 02.03 – No Escape
Tina got up, she reached into her desk and pulled out a can of mace, she walked very slowly to the back room. She looked in and saw a tall, dark haired, dark eyed woman with a pair of sunglasses perched in the top of her head. She had a pencil that was holding up her mane of black silky hair.
She had a smoldering look, dressed in a very tight black shirt that showed off her just right sized breast, and a pair of olive green hip hugging cargo pants. She looked up and saw Tina standing at the small opening of the door she chewed on the end of a pen.
“Can I help you bella?” The dark haired woman asked, and Tina pushed the door farther open, stammering not knowing what to do. She obviously wasn’t a burglar she seemed hip deep in the files that Oscar had put back there earlier in the day. “Well you can help me Bella want to find me the Anderson file? I know it is in this office, but for the life of this Barrio girl, I cannot find it. I have to be in court before 10am, and I don’t have time to play this hide and seek game that Oscar thinks is his filing system. The man is brilliant, but sometimes brilliance is unorganized.” She was staring Tina down and then Tina turned on her heals and went out to get the file. She couldn’t talk, she was to taken back with that woman back there, who was she?
The woman stood with her hands on her hips, ok what was with that chica? Was she daft or was she just stunned that there was someone in the office at this insane hour? A little of both she thought as she walked out of the back office to go talk to the pretty blonde.
“Hey!” The Latina yelled and Tina spun around, slamming into her and dropping the file that she had diligently retrieved. The dark eyed woman chuckled, bending down and grabbing some papers. Tina finally snapped out of her haze and knelt down and helped the woman.
“I’m, I’m really sorry….” Tina said in the lowest of voices, and the woman shrugged, seeing that it was indeed the file she wanted. Their eyes met and Tina swallowed audibly and she was at a loss for words, yet again. Smoldering intense gaze met Tina’s and she was lost in those eyes, what the hell was going on?
“For what? Dropping the file? I do it all the time, I have butter fingers. Drop things, trip over things, my two feet? Both lefties.” She said standing up and heading back to the back room. Tina too stood, and followed her into the room, putting the rest of the file on the table. The Latina sat and pulled some papers out, setting them in one place.
“Did you see the toxicology reports?” She asked and Tina opened another binder, shuffling the papers around and then asking.
“The ones on the children? Jimmy and Josh or the parents?” The woman’s dark eyebrows shot up, and she said.
“Both.” Tina handed the papers to the woman still not having gotten her name, Tina sat down and started to organize the files, and the dark eyed woman grabbed a pencil and started to get to work in earnest.

Bette sat across from Marty, it was well into the middle of the night, and Marty had claimed he wasn’t leaving until she at least uttered a word. She sat on the bed, meeting his gaze from time to time, unspoken easiness between them. Marty stretched, and she heard his back popping, he turned the TV on, and found a mind numbing info-mermercial, and she actually grunted when she turned her stare to the TV.
“So I guess you think this means you win huh?” Marty said, and Bette frowned, then blinking innocently at him. What was the unshaven man talking about.
“Bette, I know some of the vague details of what happened to you. This is your way of exerting control over your current situation. In truth, right now you are not in control, everything around you is going at a haphazard pace, and you are in a perpetual stand still. You need to make a move, start talking, or you’ll stop existing. I know that isn’t want you want out of life.” Marty stated, imparting his nightly wisdom as he stood.
“You might not have anything better to do tomorrow, but I have patients that I can get through too. Have a good night Ms. Porter.” Marty said, opening the door, and he left. Bette watched him walk out, leaving the door open just an inch she noticed. She got up and closed it with a soft click.
“Why say anything when you have nothing to say.” Bette said to the empty room, climbing into bed, turning the TV on VH1 and letting whatever mindless pop lull her to sleep.

Early morning. The sun was filtering into the small apartment that Kit and Ivan shared together. Ivan had worked all night and he was just coming in, looking haggard but still as handsome as always.
“Kit?” Ivan said, peeking into the bedroom as Kit hung up the phone, and she turned to Ivan. A small smile came to her lips and Ivan leaned down and kissed her gently on the forehead with as much love as Kit had ever experienced in her whole life. A small thing, that kiss but it meant the world to Kit.
“Hey sweetheart, how was your night?” Kit asked and Ivan lay down on the bed on his stomach, and looked at Kit with love.
“It was good, I missed your daily phone call, were you busy?” Kit always called Ivan right before he went off to work, and last night she didn’t have the energy too.
“Yeah, I was jammed. I went to see Bette already. I know it’s only 9am, and had a long chat with her doctor. He says that if she doesn’t make any progress in the next few weeks, he’s going to release her. Her insurance isn’t going to cover it any more. I can’t afford it, and our jack ass of a father isn’t going to pay either. Bette, the perfect daughter, has fallen from his grace.” Kit said, leaning against the pillow.
“Is there anyone else we can ask? I mean, this is Bette after all; she has a great bunch of friends. This is also the best place in the state for the type of trauma she experienced.” Ivan said, and Kit shook her head.
“Not anyone I know who’s got 30 grand a month to spare.”
“Ouch that much huh? I don’t know anyone with that sort of liquid cash either. We’ll figure something out love.” Ivan said, reaching up and caressing Kit’s face as a single tear spilled down her face.

Cute how Sam got Alex to wake up. Just curious as to why in your stories Dana is always so indecisive about the person she’s in love with?
