    Some more hanging out at the beach. Angelica’s cuteness always prevails…lol. Peggy calls and is…Peggy…lol

    “Angie, don’t walk to far away from us!  I need to see where you are!  And don’t go close to the water, Boo!” Bette shouted.  Angelica walked in front of Bette and Helena.  The four year old was picking up sea-shells, one at a time.

     

    “She’s very active.  She reminds me of you.” Helena said as she moved her body closer to Bette’s.

     

    “Thanks.  I love her so much, Helena.  I never thought I could feel like this for anyone and then she was born.  I felt this overwhelming sense of pride and love and I just wanted to protect her.”

     

    “That’s what its like with children, Bette.  That’s why it hurts so bad not to see mine.  I mean, we have the conference calls and the webcam, but I don’t get to see them and hold them.  I miss them.”

    ”You’ll see them in a few days.”

     

    “I’m sure they’ll be excited and they’ll love seeing Angelica again.”  Angelica ran back towards them, her hands full of shells.

     

    “One for Mama, one for ‘Lena, and one for me.” She said as she handed Angelica and Helena two shells.

     

    “Thank you, Boo.”  Bette said as she picked up Angelica.

     

    “Thanks, Angie.  That was very sweet.”

    They made their way back into the house.  Helena played with Angelica while Bette ran her bath water.  She even put bubbles in it.

     

    “’Lena?” Angelica asked as she bounced on Helena’s knee.

     

    “Yes, munchkin?”

     

    “Are you Mama’s new girlfriend?” Helena was taken by surprise at the line of questioning.  She didn’t know exactly how to respond.  The obvious answer was no, but she felt like she was Bette’s girlfriend.  Regardless, she felt like she was going down this path anyway.

     

    “No, I’m not your mother’s girlfriend.”

     

    “Oh.  I think you should be Mama’s girlfriend.”

     

    “Really?” Angelica nodded vigorously.

     

    “You make Mama smile.”

     

    “Can you keep a secret?” Angelica’s eyes lightened.  If there was one thing she learned from Alice, it was that secrets were fun.  One thing she learned from her other aunts, was not to spill everybody else’s secrets like Alice, “I really like your mother and she makes me smile too.  And, maybe, I will be her girlfriend.  Promise not to tell.”

    4. susannah you make me feel so terrible. I hate that you need balm for the “drama and pain” of my fic. Now back to this story, why would Bette not feel Helena would like her. they are holdign hands, practically cuddling. They already seem like a nice family unit. Angelica will be the match maker here. Kids are so honest.

    6. squirl, I hope I didn’t offend you with the comment about the “drama and pain” but girl you know it’s true!! One mark of a good author is to evoke emotion and I think it’s safe to say there is alot of emotion over there!! So you are doing a good job. I also think that Angelica is going to be the matchmaker, and how cute is that. I wanted her to run and whisper in her mama’s ear that Lena wanted to be her girlfriend! If she can keep a secret, she is the first 4 year old I have ever heard of that can!
