Just The Girl – Chapter Eighteen (a HYD-inspired fic)

"What the hell is going on?!" A loud voice boomed from behind them. They all turned around to see Bette limping towards them, grimacing a little as her feet ached in pain.

I guess that thing about not making a scene just flew out the window, Alice shrugged. Oh well, better go for broke, she sighed when Bette looked at her for an explanation. "Psycho stalker Jodie here insulted Kennard and called her a social climber. She also forcefully grabbed her arm." She summarized what had just occurred. "Clumsy little me accidentally dumped the water inside Tina’s glass unto Jodie’s head." She shrugged. For just a fleeting second, she felt bad for Jodie as she watched Bette’s face turn livid. There was no doubt that she was going to respond as if the act was done personally against her.

"Bette.." Jodie tried to reach out to the brunette but to no avail, the leader of F4 was looking at her with pure disdain.

Bette swallowed hard and tried to normalize her breathing. She automatically reached out for Tina’s hand and gently guided the blonde to stand behind her. Tina went along quietly, privy to the fact that Bette was probably going to blow up soon. The look on her face was very familiar – it scared and excited her at the same time. Bette didn’t let go of Tina’s hand as she continued to stare at the guilty-looking woman in front of her.

Bette let out a deep breath and surprised everyone when she spoke to Jodie calmly, as if nothing untoward had happened. "Jodie.." She smiled sweetly at the small woman, but if one would look closely, they would see that the sides of Bette’s lips were actually twitching.

"Y-yes?" Jodie answered hesitantly, fear beginning to grip her senses.

"I want to offer you my congratulations.." Bette smiled brightly and tilted her head to the side, not breaking eye contact with the girl.

"F-for w-what?" Jodie shakily asked, dreading Bette’s next words.

"I believe Your father is going to be transferred to one of the international offices. If I’m right, it’s somewhere far away.." Bette stroked her chin in deep concentration. "Africa, maybe?"

    1. The flirting is so hilarious! I think Sam may be getting some fire in her about going after Helena, I hope Helena will give her a chance. Tina’s handling of Jodie was picture perfect. I am definitely off to read more.
